Maschinot needs to work on his defense. He got spun around, crossed, taken off the dribble, you name it, by Riley tonight pretty much anytime Riley wanted to do one of the above. Also needs to get stronger with his passing. It led to several turnovers. He'll be solid over the next two years though if he can get taller and stronger.

Agreed. One challenge obviously is not seeing this type of PG at the Frosh and JV level. In addition, he's still trying to feel comfortable and he's not there totally IMO. I think that once he does feel like he's truly a varsity player and doesn't worry about what others think, he'll be more aggressive than what I saw tonite defensively. Again, though, he was going up against the best PG in NKY so lets cut him a little slack.

The passes are a bit his fault and a bit the wing's fault. If you watched Coach L tonight after some of those passes, he was trying to get his wings to realize that if they are overplaying, go backdoor. Never happened once. So if Connor is told to run that play and its not there and there's no backdoor cut , his options are limited. I'd tell him that if its not there and the wing doesn't cut to keep on going to the rim.

Lastly, IMO he'll be a 2 guard in the future. CCH will have him and Brett Riedinger who is a 100% PG. Brett's ONLY issue is he hasn't hit his growth spurt yet. He can shoot. He can dribble. He can pass. You then let Connor use his natural athletic abilty.

This sophomore class has a lot of pieces to the big puzzle. Match it up with some talented current frosh and they'll be back to the #1 or #2 team in two years.

I see more potential in Reidinger. I really like him, especially at PG. So hopefully that is how it plays out.

The passes are the wings fault in some instances, but nearly every pass Maschinot makes is a weak one handed push pass. That isn't going to cut it and he's been told and it's just a matter of breaking the habit.

Shover will likely be out the rest of the season...

An opinion or a fact? I've been tryin to call Mike (Mitch's dad) at work all week, but he never answered and though I heard maybe that where taking him somewhere out of town to see another specialist. Real shame. Mitch is a fine ballplayer and even better young man, as is his parents. I did hear he's lost quite a bit of wieight of a frame that really didn't have too much extra to share. Hoping for the best . . .

If you mean at PG, I'll agree.

Connor will be a very good player for the next 2 years. No question.

I don't think he's lost as much weight as people think unless its all happened in the last 2 weeks.

I agree which is why I said he'd be solid over the next two years. He reminds me A LOT of Shover, without the size yet.

Mitch has lost a lot off his frame. He looks very fragile. Weak. Obviously because he is sick, but weight loss too. I mean the kid eats and can't keep anything down from what I heard. Poor thing.

But yeah, it's good to hear they may be figuring out what it is, and that it isn't as severe as people are speculating.

It kills me to see a senior lose the opportunity to compete throughout his last year--Really stinks??

Yeah I know. What is even worse is that Mitch has been VERY dedicated to basketball. No kid deserves to go through this, but it is really upsetting to see him and his family go through this. They're all such nice people, and I'm sure it's heartbreaking not only the illness but him missing out on something he loves so much.

Why doesn't Reidinger get some minutes in varsity as I too thought he was very good in the JV game. It seemed like Maschinot played the whole game as a Sophomore. Without a doubt he has skills and is probably their best option at point guard, but I think it would help them out to use Reidinger more. JMO

Brings to mind Billy Schult from 2007? Hope Mitch gets back in the game soon!!

To be honest, I've kind of wondered the same thing. I mean I understand Reidinger is small, but Maschinot is too. And I personally think Reidinger handles the ball better. Maschinot has a better shot though I think. They are pretty even. They both do the one handed push pass..aah.

Yeah, the Billy situation was sad as well. :(

I'd have to argue you on that one. Maschinot may be more of a scorer right now, but Riedinger has the better shot from the outside without a doubt.
