Top Five Active Coaches

Featured Replies

1. Pete Carroll-The best and biggest winner

2. Urban Meyer- Climing to the ranks of all time greatness

3. Jim Tressell- Does more with less than any other coach in the Country, IMO. They don't have the athleticism of SEC, Big 12, or Pac 10 Teams, but are always good

4. Nick Saban- I think he has the greatest knowledge about the game in college football

5. Bob Stoops- Plays in the BCS every year. Could use some better performances in big games

Top 5 Up and Coming

1. Chris Peterson- The next Meyer

2. Kyle Wittingham- If you're in need of a coach at..........Tennessesee, Auburn, Washington or etc., why wouldn't you give him a look.

3. Brian Kelly- he's winning at CINCINNATI

4. Mike Gundy- Good offensive mind

5. Gus Malzahn (even if he's just an OC) produces big yards everywhere he goes and even the NFL has stolen his ideas to some extent.

Top 5 overrated

1. Les Miles

2. Steve Spurrier

3. Mark Richt

4. Joe Pa (NOW)- was a great, but how much coaching does he really do anymore?

5. Mike Leach

Top 5 underrated

1. Butch Davis

2. Rich Brooks

3. Paul Johnson

4. Mark Mangino

5. Gary Patterson

All-Time top 5

1. The Bear

2. Knute Rockne

3. Bobby Bowden

4. Joe Paterno

5. Bud Wilkerson

Woody Hayes would have to make this list.

Another coaching list with many coaches without Frank Beamer on the list. Puzzling IMO

Tells me he needs to be added to the UNDERRATED list.

He almost made my list. I deleted him at the last minute. I like guys who do less with more. Beamer's legacy to some extent comes from having some nice athletes to work with. Vick was a heck of a college player. 4 of the guys on the list have never had that kind of talent. And number 1 is the best recruiter in college football. Built the greatest team ever (2001 Canes-even though he left before that season to take over the Cleveland Browns) after taking over the program while it was on probation. Also, North Carolina has put together some great classes and is much improved. I think something is brewing there. Maybe to like a WVU or Boise State level. Brooks has to be 1.a. He has built a consistent winner in a very tough conference with U.K. I know their our boys, but as far as recruiting good players it has to be one of the 4 worst jobs in the SEC. Some how he has managed to do it.

As for Woody Hayes, he was next on my list along with Bo Schembechler and a few others on my all-time list. Ah, really for me as long as a list has Bear Bryant on it it's good enough. Maybe move Hayes in and take out Joe Paterno. I don't know. You really can't go wrong.

1. Caroll

2. Meyer

3. tie Tressell and Stoops

5. Saben

6. Beamer

This story is NOT TRUE!!! But sounds cool.

I assumed that it was true. He even allowed it to be printed in the clinic manual. But I'll take your word for it. And your right, true or not, it was a good story!!:thumb:

1. Pete Carroll

2. Howard Schnellenberger

3.Bob Stoops

4.Kyle Wittingham

5.Urban Meyer

Hon Ment: Jim Tressel, Frank Beamer, Mark Richt, Houston Nutt, Bobby Bowden, Joe Paterno, Mack Brown

No Nick Saban?

I wouldn't put Beamer on the list because of the type of players he's recruited. Look at how his QB stomped on the Louisville guy in the bowl a few years ago. We all know about what type of person Michael Vick is as well.

That is somewhat flimsy. You mentioned Brooks and Nutt...and I'm a big fan of both of those guys, but they have recruited troubled athletes as well. Matt Jones, Curtis Pulley. You are never going to be 100% in this regard.

Tressel

Nutt

Carroll

Saban

Meyer

Close to that list..

Stoops

Richt

Brian Kelly(laugh if you would like)

How is Nutt ahead of Stoops? :idunno:

Petrino would be in my Top 5 list of coaches.

Petrino would be in my Top 5 list of coaches.

Top 5 coaches right now? I disagree.:idunno:

^ He's pretty darned phenominal at winning games....being a good person? NO...being honest? NO....at life in general? NO!!!

But he wins, and he will take Arkansas to the SEC Championship...sooner than later.
