January 10, 200917 yr ^ He's pretty darned phenominal at winning games....being a good person? NO...being honest? NO....at life in general? NO!!!But he wins, and he will take Arkansas to the SEC Championship...sooner than later.
January 10, 200917 yr I assumed that it was true. He even allowed it to be printed in the clinic manual. But I'll take your word for it. And your right, true or not, it was a good story!!:thumb: Only reason I know was because I was in the room;)
January 10, 200917 yr He almost made my list. I deleted him at the last minute. I like guys who do less with more. Beamer's legacy to some extent comes from having some nice athletes to work with. Vick was a heck of a college player. 4 of the guys on the list have never had that kind of talent. And number 1 is the best recruiter in college football. Built the greatest team ever (2001 Canes-even though he left before that season to take over the Cleveland Browns) after taking over the program while it was on probation. Also, North Carolina has put together some great classes and is much improved. I think something is brewing there. Maybe to like a WVU or Boise State level. Brooks has to be 1.a. He has built a consistent winner in a very tough conference with U.K. I know their our boys, but as far as recruiting good players it has to be one of the 4 worst jobs in the SEC. Some how he has managed to do it. Take a look at Virginia Tech Pre-Beamer. He took over in 1987. From 1946 to 1986, the Hokies appeared in just 6 Bowl Games. Since then, they have reached 16 bowls. How you put Brooks up there, and not Beamer is almost laughable
January 11, 200917 yr How is Nutt ahead of Stoops? :idunno: Stoops is a great coach, don't get me wrong, but Nutt has always been one of my favorites. Stoops is a better coach for sure, I just like Nutt a lot better. I have never really been a big Stoops fan..
January 11, 200917 yr Take a look at Virginia Tech Pre-Beamer. He took over in 1987. From 1946 to 1986, the Hokies appeared in just 6 Bowl Games. Since then, they have reached 16 bowls. How you put Brooks up there, and not Beamer is almost laughable Well in my IDIOTIC defense. Virginia Tech was in the Big East and is now in the ACC. I think they have a better breed of athlete in Virginia then we do in Kentucky, and which conference would it be tougher in to start winning? If UK had always been in the Big East or ACC, their tradition would be alot better. The 2007 Wildcats would have probaly finished top 15 in the polls. How good would Virignia Tech be had they not landed Michael Vick? I don't think you see players like Tyrod Taylor ending up here. Sure VT was nice before Vick, but I don't think anyone is fighting to get Beamer on this list pre-1999. As a matter of fact I know they wouldn't. Rich Brooks built a nice foundation for a program at Oregon, and look what he has done at UK. He plays in the toughest top to bottom, year in and year out Conference in America. Usually, UK is out talented by 9 or 10 teams in the conference, yet he still wins games. Virginia Tech has top 4 talent in their conference. They shoud win. UK shouldn't. Honestly, UK's overall talent level is less than Utah, Boise State, or TCU's all "mid-majors", and still Rich Brooks wins in the SEC. Could Beamer do better at UK? NO. Few could. The crown jewel of a typical UK recruiting class is one 4 or 5 star player, yet they still make bowls in the SEC. I understand that Beamer does a good job but to say flat out that ranking Rich Brooks over him is laughable, is more laughable on your part. Hey take a look at UK pre-Brooks. Sure they had the two bowl appearances with Mumme, but their offense was a head of its time, they lost the bowl games, and obviously they ran the program the wrong way. Outside of Vandy, UK is probably the toughest job in the SEC to become a winning program. THE SEC!! When they were in the Big East VT only had to worry about Miami as the other schools were non-factors then. Now they have up and coming Georgia Tech and UNC, plus FSU and Miami who are trying to get back to the top but that doen't compare to a conference whos 9th best team is Tennessee, and that has won the last 3 national titles. Just Keeping UK at a winning record and leaving them in the future with the potential to continue becoming a better program puts him above Beamer in my book.
January 11, 200917 yr I have a question, if UK was not in the SEC, do you think they would be getting the type of players they do as well? Prospects love playing in the SEC, so if UK was in the ACC or Big East, I see them STILL being just an average team. And also, who recruited Mike Vick and got him to suit up for the Hokies? Oh yeah, Frank Beamer. Who recruited players such as Tyrod Taylor, Xavier Adibi, Victor Harris, Deangelo Hall, Kevin Jones, etc? Oh yeah, Frank Beamer. We will agree to disagree, but I don't see how you can put Rich Brooks ahead of Frank Beamer, and I don't think many people would do that either.
