Highlands has a great program, great support, great kids....but not everything related to N Ky HS Football revolves around them. A coach can still be very successful and very well received by doing other things right. Anyway you look at it, Cov Cath is a top 5 position in N Ky. Beating HHS is a great bonus, but I doubt it is the main criteria for considering this position.

 

Most of the time the winner of the HHS vs CCH game is the eventual State Champ. So maybe it should be considered a main criteria.:idunno:

I won't pretend to speak for LN but his perception is that beating HHS is the #1 criterion in the minds of CCHers.

Maybe its not the #1 criterion this coming season, but losing 4 out of 5 games or 3 out of 4 or whatever its been since Dale came to Highlands, even competitively, doesn't sit well with the CovCath folks that I know and the next coach will be expected to start beating Highlands at least half the time pronto.

 

IF Wolfe applied, my guess is that he'd need/want to continue to teach at Ryle, but coach at CovCath. Would the CovCath faithful go nuts if they said no to Wolfe but allowed Siple to continue to teach at Indian Hill, yet coach at CovCath? Would Kevin's experience and success as a head coach trump Wolfe alumni status? Would the faithful go nuts if in a couple of years Kevin left to take what he thought was a better head coaching job back in Ohio and Wolfe told the school to pound sand, he's never applying again?

 

Lots of interesting edges to this situation.

Plus having a "Highlands" coach...if he succeeds then it's because of "Highlands" instruction...if he doesn't succeed, then it's Highlands "sabatoge"! Can't win!

Not sure what you mean by "go nuts", but would there be disappointment if the next hire doesn't work out. There sure would. But there is also the opportunity to make an outside the box hire that could go a long way to remaking the competitiveness of the team. Lots of interesting edges, but I see mostly upside.

You see, CovCath supporters really aren't all that different from Highlands supporters. They want a great role model for the players, they want someone that works with the fans and supporters and they want someone that will win state championships (and those don't happen unless they beat Highlands).

Really? I seem to recall an increasing number of critical posts by CovCath fans in the latter years of Coach Ray's tenure (admittedly, most were focused at the O coordinator and not Coach Ray). Especially considering the last 22 matchups are 18-4 HHS. The average margin of victory for the HHS wins is 37.2 to 11.6. The average margin of victory in the 4 CCH wins is 28.3 to 23.

You are correct that they WANT to beat HHS. Its simply not THE priority though in hiring a coach.
