I am sure the Administration is doing what is best for the program as a whole so I dont want anyone thinking I am on one side or the other. I am just giving my two cents from an outsider's perspective. I know what I saw on the field from their players and it was a lot of head hanging after Highlands scored twice on them this past season. I saw Brossart trying to rally them on the sidelines and it didnt seem to work.

 

Agree that the players are ultimately responsible for their effort or lack thereof, but your team's attitude is fostered during practice and in the off-season, not on the sidelines during a game!!

Zero chance. He wants to be a head coach and just got canned by the school. I wouldn't if I was him.

Agreed, outsiders perspective, I have no dog in this fight, but for some to say that this is outrageous and not what the majority of players, fans and alum's wanted. That's just silly and naive.

When he first got the job a lot of people weren't happy because he wasn't an alumni. He was just in an awful position from the beginning. Prior to Covcath he did wonders at Finnytown and was named Ohio Coach of the Year. Hmmm makes me think.

While I realize their schedule last year turned out unusually tough due to several opponents having big years, it's not that much different than their typical schedule the last 5 or 6 years?

 

2008--they played Cardinal Mooney, Elder and Lou. St. X along with their normal NCC, B-Wood, Dixie, Scott, Holmes and of course Highlands.

2007--Elder, LaSalle, and Columbus St. Charles plus their normal local schools.

2006--Elder, Cincy St. X, Bishop Watterson plus locals.

2005--Cincy St. X, B. Watterson, Moeller plus locals.

2004--LaSalle, Elder, etc.

 

My point is everybody is blaming the tough schedule for Brossart's lack of results, but Rodenburg seemed to compete as did those before him; and I never heard anyone mention kids "quitting" in games before this staff took over??

 

I agree it takes more than 2 years to "rebuild a program" but this is not a down in the dumps program he took over; this is Covington Catholic, who by the way, won a state championship the year before he took over??

He did not get grief when he was hired. The non-CCH factor was not a big deal. Rodenberg wasn't a CCH guy either and he was well received.

Lets just say, that I am rather sure that Mr. Brossart W's and L's record, wasn't the primary reason and I will agree with Clyde, Dave is why Dave resigned. No matter how anyone wants to spin this, Dave has been Dave own worst nightmare!

 

BTW, from what I can remember wasn't Mr. Brossart Principal Clines (former CovCath Principal) choice and not the choice of the committee that was put together to hire a new football coach! If Clines could have his choice of a football coach, shouldn't Rowe have the same chance to have his own man run the program?

I don't think being an alum is a prerequisite to coaching at CovCath.

 

A lot of the success Brossart had at Finneytown was due to dumbing down the schedule. Who was Finneytown's biggest win during Brossart's tenure as coach? Hindsight is 20/20, but many had reservations when he was hired. But I believe he was given a fair shake.

So dead on. The reason he is gone, is because of the holes he dug and couldn't get out of. He was his own worst enemy.

 

There was not a witch hunt, and the parents and players did not decide 2 years ago that they were not going to give him a chance. He had his chance and he absolutely blew it. Brossart has ALOT to work on before he will be a successful coach for any program and best of luck to him.

It is a shame that so many people are so negative about Dave Brossart. He is a good man that put his heart and soul into Cov Cath. He was never given a chance from day one. It's funny how people on here mention that he was the old principals "boy" and that no one else wanted him. Well if that was everyone's perception from the beginning did they really support him? You can say all you want about the state championship that was won the year before he arrived but the cupboard was bare. Rodenberg fled CovCath b/c he knew what was happening. You can say that going to Roger Bacon was a step to get him to Moeller but that is absolutely untrue. Winning state championships at CCH is much more impressive than going 2-8 in the GCL Central at Roger Bacon. Remember he coached in the GCL Central while at McNick before coming to CCH. So was he really climbing the ladder? He was getting out of dodge before the ship sank. In steps Brossart coupled with no support and this is what you get. Anyone in America can tell you it takes more than two years to impact your program. People are criticizing his X's, O's, play calling, character, etc... I have seen Brossart at work for years and I can tell you he knows the game and cares tremendously about the kids. I have watched him motivate, teach and even console a team that lost a teammate to violence. Schools go through cycles of having athletes. They do not have the horses to compete with that national schedule. Have you made an honest evaluation of the current Colonel players? CCH is not what it has been. How is the basketball team doing right now? Every coach has a group of individuals questioning their play calling this is no different. But do not attack his character. The reason Dave no longer has the position he loved is b/c he did not back down to specific people (who ironically call themselves CCH supporters). He would not hand a specific youth coach a whistle to coach at CCH. "Brossart had his chance and blew it" Sorry buddy but 2 years is not a chance.
