If I were Mr. Rowe I would ask myself the following questions about keeping or replacing Coach Brossart!

 

Has he been a good role model for the students of the school and the players on the team?

Since he has been at CovCath have the players improved not only as football players but as students?

Has he taught the students to be gracious winners and good losers?

Has he worked to maintain/improve the image of CovCath in the community or on a state wide level?

Will they because of Coach Brossart be better men, fathers, husbands, or community leaders due to what he has taught them?

Has he and his coaching staff deflected criticisms away from his players and toward themselves instead and thus protecting the kids?

Have the players become better Catholics/Christians because of Coach Brossart?

 

Yes to all the above.

 

They may be upset about change, but not that Brossart's gone. I have talked to recently, and by that I mean last week, to the top players in next year's senior class and they all agreed they wanted him gone. I don't know where you're getting your information from but it's just not accurate. Take it from me as a former player who played under Brossart two years ago, X's and O's asside Brossart is not right for CovCath. I think he's a great O line coach, he just didn't handle the role of head coach very well.

Who the heck were you talking to? First of all, Kevin Connaughton is the best player at CCH in the class of '10, and I know for fact he did not want Brossart to leave.

 

Glad to hear this news. As someone who's been a part of (and still very passionate about) this program, Brossart is not cut out to be a coach at CCH. Period.

In regard to someone mentioning his treatment of the '08 class...If he treated that senior class poorly, that's one senior class too many.

 

You came to this conclusion, in two years eh? Let me tell you something, as a player on Brossart's team, Brossart as a very good coach. THe seniors this year quit. Period. THat is the reason why we did so poorly this year, not because of Brossart.

I don't think it is any more poor taste for him to call out his teammates than it is to get on here and say you want his coach to be fired or you're glad his coach is gone. We all know the kids read these posts and are members in BGP. Sometimes it's the teammates who step up and call those teammates out who aren't playing their hardest that become good leaders. You can call it poor taste all you want, but he obviously has a different view than some people on here and he's not afraid to say it. We all might be better off if we listen his side instead of trying to shut him out because he obviously has some things to say as in support of Brossart as opposed to slamming Brossart.

 

And yes, I would definitely call out my teammates if I thought they weren't trying. I call out both of my sons when they aren't trying in anything, so I would definitely call out my teammates as well.

 

I hate it for every one involved in this situation. I hope that Brossart is able to continue coaching somewhere, but I also hope that his staff is either retained or able to continue coaching somewhere. None of the coaches expected any of this when they signed on for a job at Covington Catholic coaching football.

As I hear more details, the CovCath administration should be ashamed of themselves at how this went down. I am not surprised that Brossart was asked to leave, but they way they did it was classless. The way Rowe's first year is going so far he'd be smart to remember this.

 

As for who wanted him to stay and which want him to go, I think there are a bunch of delusional parents out there. Some of these kids could not have played for Vince Lombardi and lived up to the expectations.

 

I'll have to agree with several on here that this just wasn't a good match from the beginning, and when you add in a lack of success on the field (although against a killer schedule); the result was probably very predictable.

 

Not sure about your shots at the CCH administration in general and principal Rowe in particular?? After all he did officially resign, after what I assume was his yearly evaluation meeting with the principal, as virtually all coaches have with their bosses. Unless you were in the meeting, then you don't know if he resigned, was encouraged to quit, was given demands he felt he couldn't live with (hire new assistants, etc.)

 

I have heard however, that this meeting was purposely postponed to allow Coach Brossart to get married, have his honeymoon and enjoy the Holidays? If this is true, that's hardly classless, and in fact quite the opposite!!

I don't think W/L weighed heavily in this. Dale Mueller wasn't going to win more than 6 in the regular season with this team and this schedule.

 

My GUESS is that the blowouts were a problem ie lack of being competitive and off-the-field issues snowballed. Once the snowball gets rolling and you then have 61-0, 57-0, and a few other blowouts, the pressure gets to be too much and the administration decides to make a change. Add in that this principal didn't hire Dave and you've got yourself looking for a new position.

Thank you very much for understanding the 1st Amendment. And yes I have a side of this story that none of you guys can ever understand because none of you guys were impacted by this man the way I was.

 

Brossart called me up last year as a freshman to play JV and dress varsity. He gave me a chance to prove to everyone that I could play ball. And I did my best to not let him down. And after we lost to Highlands last year in the playoffs, me on the sidelines, I vowed to one of my former freshman teammates that was also dressing that we had to do our best to win state. So I spent all offseason in the weight room; I missed two workouts the entire year. At the end of the offseason, I benched 275 lbs as a sophomore, which was the second most on the team. And on August 1st, the first day of two a days, I tear my ACL 30 minutes into practice. And when I found out a week later, I burst into tears right in front of all the nurses. I had felt that I had let all my teammates and coaches down. I watched all those ugly defeats from the sideline, knowing I could not do anything about what was happening. I cried before the Cardinal Mooney game. And I cried after the Johnson Central game. I love football, and I love Cov Cath. And how dare anyone who criticize me for calling out my teammates becaus eI am upset that they quit. How dare you.

I am the sister of a senior from this years team. And for you to call him, or any of his teammates out for "giving up" is a sad sad thing young man. They did not give up. And in the process they had a man offering absolutely no support or motivation oncesoever. I am sorry to hear about your injury, and I wish you the best in the next 2 years, but I hope for your sake none of your teammates treat you the way you've just disrespected your former ones.

No problem. In a public forum and it's all opinion anyways and I don't have the opinion that saying what you feel is the wrong thing to say. Like I said, I hate it for everyone involved. It wasn't that long ago that we were going through the same thing here at Boyle County and regardless of what people may try to say, I think Wins and Losses have a lot to do with everything. It's funny how a coach's philosophy on life or how he is a person, or the smallest mistake a coach may make gets called into question when the team is losing. It's funny how these things aren't ever a problem when the team is winning. That's life and there's not a lot we can do to change it, but I will acknowledge it. I hope everything works out for you physically with your knee and recovery and I hope things work out for your team as well. You obviously care a great deal about your team and whether or not this is the right place to call your teammates out is irrelevant to me. You want to see your team do the best it can performing as hard as they can. There is nothing wrong with that. It's a lot easier to lose knowing the team gave all they had than it is to lose knowing the team didn't give all they had. I feel your pain and frustration. Good luck in the upcoming year.
