It is a shame that so many people are so negative about Dave Brossart. He is a good man that put his heart and soul into Cov Cath. He was never given a chance from day one. It's funny how people on here mention that he was the old principals "boy" and that no one else wanted him. Well if that was everyone's perception from the beginning did they really support him? You can say all you want about the state championship that was won the year before he arrived but the cupboard was bare. Rodenberg fled CovCath b/c he knew what was happening. You can say that going to Roger Bacon was a step to get him to Moeller but that is absolutely untrue. Winning state championships at CCH is much more impressive than going 2-8 in the GCL Central at Roger Bacon. Remember he coached in the GCL Central while at McNick before coming to CCH. So was he really climbing the ladder? He was getting out of dodge before the ship sank. In steps Brossart coupled with no support and this is what you get. Anyone in America can tell you it takes more than two years to impact your program. People are criticizing his X's, O's, play calling, character, etc... I have seen Brossart at work for years and I can tell you he knows the game and cares tremendously about the kids. I have watched him motivate, teach and even console a team that lost a teammate to violence. Schools go through cycles of having athletes. They do not have the horses to compete with that national schedule. Have you made an honest evaluation of the current Colonel players? CCH is not what it has been. How is the basketball team doing right now? Every coach has a group of individuals questioning their play calling this is no different. But do not attack his character. The reason Dave no longer has the position he loved is b/c he did not back down to specific people (who ironically call themselves CCH supporters). He would not hand a specific youth coach a whistle to coach at CCH. "Brossart had his chance and blew it" Sorry buddy but 2 years is not a chance. By the way he was a successful coach before coming to CCH. Best of luck to the next guy who jumps into this hornets nest. Let's just put this to rest and wish him luck.

You are a friend of Brossart's obviously. And I respect that. I have a friend or two that most people don't really like, but I see redeeming qualities in them. Good for you. And I applaud you for standing up for him.

 

However, he DID blow his chance. He did this without anyones help but his own. And if he is going to have success as a coach, he is going to have to do ALOT better at his future position. Good luck and I hope that the things he did wrong at CCH were a learning experience for the man.

If you were in the stands and listened at all to the overwhelming lack of respect everyone had for Brossart you cannot be surprised by this. You and your son may have liked Brossart and what he was doing, but my son was a starter for him for two years and I can assure you that the majority of his players had no respect for the man as a coach. The treatment of his players, other than a few favorites he played to, was unacceptable. My son plays multiple sports and has had many coaches he has liked and disliked, but never has he had a coach play the immature mind games like this man did. To be clear, my son started as a key player for him for two years. We were there when Brossart came to CovCath and had high hopes, and had no prior info about him to make any premature judgements. Almost from day one it was apparent there were problems, and it wasn't just with my son. I am not part of the so called "mafia", just a concerned parent. I have remained quiet until his resignation, but can no longer stand by and let a few try to convince people this was not the overwhelming opinion of most varsity players and their families. If you are shocked by this then you weren't paying attention the last two years. It is best for Brossart and CovCath to close this chapter and move on.

Coming from someone outside the Mafia I actually tend to believe your post. I dont know any facts on this guy except the wins and losses and where he came from.

 

To be honest I was very surprised when I heard he got the CovCath gig. All I can say is that guy is most likely heading back across the river because he seemed to have more success over there and Im sure he doesnt want to deal with CovCath any longer after this school year.

JR could have won the last 2 years with these kids. The talent wasnt as bad as you make it out to be.

I find it all too ironic that in an attempt to criticize the imagined "Park Hills Mafia" and just in general disagree with what CovCath's administration has done, we have been relegated to insulting the ability of the high school aged players.
