Out of curiosity...you all claiming to be Yankee fans, why/how did you become Yankee fans?

 

I became a Yankees fan during Derek Jeter's rookie season after seeing him play. It was one of those deals where I liked how one player played the game and started noticing how others played. My two favorite Yankees are Jeter and Bernie Williams. Jorge Posada would be a close third.

If you're a Yankee fan, this makes you happy. This payroll, is going to be unbelievable and down the road, their will be a mass exodus out.

I hope they sign Manny too, and then fail to reach the postseason AGAIN!

My favorite is the Reds then Braves. I always loved the Reds growing up back when they were actually good. I had TBS so grew up watching Dale Murphey, Bob Horner etc I had to pick an American League team and loved the Yankees tradition. More importantly one of my all time favorite players was Don Mattingly. I also liked Steve Sax, Greg Nettles, Reggie Jackson, Goose Gossage, Dave Winfield etc. ARod is probably my favorite player playing today and I don't know how anybody can't love the tradition of guys like Mantle, Mayes, Ruth etc.

The last thing is that I had a class with Steve Hamilton at Morehead St. I don't konw that I have ever met a man with more awesome stories than he had about his days with the Yanks. He was there in the glory days. He also invented the "Folley Floater" which later became the "Ephais Pitch".

3 players, almost half a BILLION dollars spent. One thing is for sure, the Yankee front office is sure not worried about the economy.

The most talent does not always equal the best record, it is how you manage those players that wins. Pete Carol said somethin on 60 minutes which I think is true. The best players don't win, the hardest working players that practice the hardest and want it the most are the ones that win.

This offseason has made me an even prouder NY Yankees fan. If you have the money, why not go after the best players available? People can't tell me that if you're offered an 8-year $170 million dollar to play a game that you wouldn't? I commend the Yankees for seeing what they like and going after it.

 

I have a feeling you wouldn't be proud if you actually lived in New York and wanted to purchase season tickets. Have you happened to look at what they're charging their own fans? Its ridiculous.

This makes me hate them even more.

Good, as the one MLB commercial with Jeter in it says "I love it when we go into another park and they boo us". In other words, if they are booing us then we have already got in their heads.

 

It's not the Yankees problem, they're abiding by the rules. And don't give me the "larger market" argument. While it is the main reason they can do it, most owners don't care about the product on the field enough to spend the money they do have.:thumb: Exactly, then people want to turn around and hate the teams that do spend the money.

 

It was a genious move when the BoSox where going to do it. They didn't get it done. Love the move for the Yanks! I'm a Yanks fan and I think the Cuban argument is a great one. Baseball needs a salary cap but I don't know how anybody can complain that somebody wants to put a winning product on the field.

:thumb: Had the BoSox been able to get it done then everyne would be cheering, claiming how great it was.

I am old school and love tradition, those Navy Blue pinstripes and that NY on the cap just scream "baseball. I have always been a Yankee fan. I am a life long Reds fan as well. Have been a fan of the Reds since my childhood and the Yanks for almost that long.

I think that is o.k. to have a fav AL and NL team. Before you or someone else ask, should the two play in the WS (as they did in the 70's) I pull for the Reds, I love both teams but I have been a Reds a littlre longer than a Yankee fan.

 

Ruth, Gehrig, Mantle, Martin, Torre, Berra, Maris, Williams, Rizzuto, Dimaggio, Ford, Jackson, Mercer, Munson, Mattingly, Guidry, Jeter, Rivera plus many, many others along with Yankee Stadium, Monument Park imo are the definition of baseball.
