How many do you see at Highlands (football power), PRP, Dunbar and Lafayette (baseball powers) Holmes, Mason County, South Laurel, Ballard, Manual and PRP again (basketball powers)?

 

It's staring to feel like the tretament Hester Prynne around here as it relates to T and X.

Take it that way if you want ... discussing the advantages they have isn't an indictment of those two programs.

I don't disagree but let's look at Henderson again. Henderson makes it's self attractive for athletes. They then expand their pool from 1000 or so kids to 1000 or so kids. The pool gets no bigger because they are it in Henderson. So in the end Henderson still have to field it's team from the talent pool of 1000-1100. Those numbers aren't anything to sneeze at and Henderson should do a better job of getting it's talent out of the halls and onto the field. But even with that we are behind the curve competeing with X and T.

 

Look at Ohio and IN. Where are the majority of the power house programs located? In the biggest towns. In Ohio it's Clev, Cin, Dayton, Columbus and in Indiana it's Indy, Evansville, Carmel, Greenwood, and other areas around Indy.

 

I wasn't disagreeing with that point...just saying they deserve credit for taking full advantage of their location.

 

The Jefferson County area is either a huge advantage or a huge disadvantage.

 

1. There are a lot of kids, but there's also a lot of schools, which makes it very competitive.

 

2. If you take advantage and make your school one of the premiere ones in the area, then you have a big advantage over most of the state.

 

That's just the way it is. If you took T and X out of the equation, at worst the next two or three schools in line (Manual, Male, Eastern?) would get those athletes and fill the void. At best, different schools from Louisville would dominate depending on how the talent broke in a given time period...regardless, Louisville is going to be the big dog.

 

Personally, I think its silly to deny that their numbers give them an advantage. And, on the flipside, I think the complaints against them is equally ridiculous.

 

We don't need to "fix" anything regarding the dominance of these two schools, because there is nothing to be "fixed", IMO. It is what it is...they shouldn't be punished for making the most of their situation.

In regards to multi-sport athletes at Ballard, there were SIX of the current varsity basketball team that played varsity football this year. Good number more of Frosh two-sport kids.

 

Coach Renner (head basketball coach) has been great to work with in terms of making things work for the kid that is serious about making the commitment it takes to doing both. He and I work hand-in-hand to make sure the kids get everything done they need to do for both sports while also not making HS sports a 24-7 proposition for them.

 

Just had a GREAT talk today too with Coach Gilbert (Ballard Baseball) and it's obvious he wants to work across sports to make sure Ballard has programs where the athletes are ABLE and ENCOURAGED to play multiple sports.

Exactly! And despite what was suggested in another thread, we do it (and always have) with kids from right here in Ft. Thomas. :thumb:
