Game, Set, and Match....

Add in Defense and how a person is in the club house and its not even close at all.

Not when you're speaking of contemporaries, they do not lie, you are absolutely correct.

Absolutely!

As well as the fact that Manny has been surrounded by better hitters than Teixeira (IMO)

While I agree with you, lets play a little game called, "First 5 years."

Giving Manny 2 partial years I'll even give you his 1st FULL 5 years, let's see the actual numbers.

Keep in mind also, Texiera is a much better defender as well

................Runs.....HR.....RBI

Manny........517.....179....617

Texiera.......566.....206....676

Ok, but we're talking about now, not then, I get it, let's take MAnny's last 5 years and compare:

................Runs.....HR.....RBI

Manny........485.....217....585

Texiera.......566.....206....676

Now, still think Texeira doesn't deserve it as much as Manny?

Texeira is one of the Top 5 in the game today......no question about it. That's not even factoring in the fact that's he's 28 and Manny is 36.

Don't ya just hate it when numbers get in the way of an arguement...

Well done. :thumb:

Thought about that and forgot to include it, no doubt about it, Manny's been protected far more than Tex.

Boston is becoming what they hate the most......

By this did you mean the Yankees? Nah, the Red Sox are an effictively run organization.....:lol::lol:

Besides the Sox payroll is still just about half of New York's.

Very good points about his numbers, but play the game "who rakes in the postseason?" Tex will be a very good addition to any lineup and until you posted those numbers I had no idea how good.

Bottom line, both organizations (and a few others) grossly overpay for these guys. One of them has to be the biggest spender and it is NY. I do not look at Boston, Detroit, Mets, etc. as any better for not spending as much.

Except the difference is that NY, Detroit, and NYM spend and lose. The BoSox (lately) have been winning. You may overpay for a few but if the bottom line is W's, then it doesn't matter to screw up a few- everyone will.

On the other hand, I doubt the bottom line is really W's. All these teams make plenty of money, so I can't imagine they care.

It just doesn't seem like the type of move the Red Sox usually make... He's a great player, but he doesn't really fit... Sounds like the team that finished a spot lower than them in the standings...

Are you talking about right now or back when the Sox gave Manny his contract? If you're talking about right now then there's no doubt. If you're talking about 2001 when Manny signed with the Sox I'd have to take Manny. This would be huge for the Red Sox. This would be a scary lineup:

Ellsbury CF

Pedroia 2B

Ortiz DH

Teixeira 1B

Youkilis 3B

Drew RF

Bay LF

Varitek (If re-signed) C

Lowerie SS

It would also be a very, very solid defensive lineup.

I agree that is a very scary lineup.

Of course, they could already have the framework of a deal for Youkilis or Lowell worked out ...

Teixeira says that Baltimore and DC are still strong possibilities.

Boston = Obama

Baltimore/DC = Huckabee
