$25 million a year? Ridiculous.

He's not the first.

Texiera is an absolute beast. He's worth it more than Manny.

If $23 mil a year for CC is ridiculous, $25 mil for Teixeira is ridiculous...

Are you talking about right now or back when the Sox gave Manny his contract? If you're talking about right now then there's no doubt. If you're talking about 2001 when Manny signed with the Sox I'd have to take Manny. This would be huge for the Red Sox. This would be a scary lineup:

Ellsbury CF

Pedroia 2B

Ortiz DH

Teixeira 1B

Youkilis 3B

Drew RF

Bay LF

Varitek (If re-signed) C

Lowerie SS

It would also be a very, very solid defensive lineup.

Either contract is ridiculous but at least Teixeira plays every day instead of 35 times a season. I would feel much better about having that kind of money tied up in an everyday player vs. a pitcher who is a biscuit shy of 350 lbs and has thrown 513 Innings the last 2 seasons (playoffs included).

Huh? I thought pitching is what won championships...

Red Sox fan is the one that's been bashing the Yankees for spending money on hitters and not pitchers because that's not what wins championships. Now, all of the sudden Red Sox fan would rather pay for a stud hitter than a stud pitcher.

Color me confused...

That's way too much...

The last time they signed a 29 year old slugger to a monster 8 year deal they ended up with 2 World Series Championships out of it......

Glad to see the bad economy is hurting everyone and not just me.

:thumb:

Wow, NY and Boston over paying for FA.....what a shocker.

Maybe it is because the Red Sox already have a couple of arms:

Josh Beckett

Jon Lester

Dice-K

Tim Wakefield

Justin Masterson

Jonathon Papelbon

Clay Buchholz

Ramon Ramirez

Hideki Okajima

Manny Delcarmen

and coming in 2009:

Michael Bowden

Daniel Bard and

Junichi Tazawa

The Sox didn't have 3 holes in their starting rotation like the Yankees did. Only the #4 or #5 spot is open this year.
