Only the #4 or #5 spot is open this year. I was just getting ready to post this same thing. When healthy, the Sox don't need much more in terms of pitching.

Texiera is one of the top all-around players in the game. He's worth more than Manny is at this point. Manny didn't want to be in Boston, he wouldn't have accepted a new offer. They 100% made the right decision trading him away and getting Bay in return. If they had kept him, they would have been playing 9 on 8 the remainder of the season. He didn't want to be there, and the Red Sox didn't want him there.

Injuries last year and get something, while still in tact. Teixeira, has several years of playing time left. I wouldn't be surprised, for this business decision to be discussed if the deal is finalized.

IMO there is a better chance of the Red Sox signing Babe Ruth than getting rid of their best offensive weapon.

He's not their best offensive weapon anymore, with the development of others. I also don't see them signing Babe Ruth, as he doesn't have the bat speed, he once did.

The addition of Tex doesn't create any position problems and getting rid of Ortiz would just leave a gapping hole in the lineup.
