What Do You Have Coming Back in '09..?

Featured Replies

Unfortunately, Highlands beat Boyle County 21-0 in the regular season and had to forfeit that game. Brandon Smith was a great player. He has been dearly missed since 2004. Highlands defense was as good as any defense in the state that year. I really wish they had beat them Bluebirds that year, a very sad day as you pointed out. Boyle finished that year as the only team ever in the state of Kentucky to go to six straight state championships(of course they won 5 straight). ;)

Thanks, I couldn't remember how that game turned out. I'll also always remember going to a Boyle County basketball game the year after Brandon graduated and he was in town for the weekend or holiday or something, but anyways, he sat right behind me and I had only seen him on the football field with pads on. After the game, some people came over to tell him how proud of him they were and I spun around so I could see Brandon and I remember seeing his size and thinking, "man, for a kid that small, he played like he was 5 inches taller and 35 pounds heavier." I was even more impressed by his career and his ability when I saw him without pads on. I remember the naysayers when he took over the team as a sophomore, especially after the crushing loss to Danville that ended "The Streak". Brandon Smith will forever be my favorite high school player ever(with Cory Jackson 2nd and Rees Macshara 3rd with a great chance to move up) and I will never, ever forget the pain that I felt for that kid that fateful day in Louisville in which he played his last high school game. I will always feel like he deserved a better ending.

AND, he should have been Mr. Football.:fight:

Simon Kenton should be tough again next year. They return Chad Lawrence and Miles Simpson.:dancingpa

The problem for Bath is the two weak classes in front of them. They lose some studs that I'm not sure the freshmen can replace next year.

I totally agree that the seniors that we lost are going to be tough to replace but so are a lot of the other teams seniors that we play. In a years time some of these juniors and sophmores can really do a lot of growing and if they stay in the weight room, who knows who will come out onto the field next year. I can tell you this, the jr. varsity squad that we have has a lot of heart and that means a lot to the game. Bath Co football is getting better each year and I expect Coach Fields and his staff to continue making the program better each year till we bring a state title back to Owingsville.

How many players do we have coming back by position? Obviously we lose Cam Smyth, Tim Phillips, Jordan Whiting and Brock Messina. Who else?

Trinity will replace their defense with a group of Seniors that have played together for three years, Freshman and JV. They also got alot of minutes in the 4th quarter of most games this year. Actual retuning staters on defense, dbs Ben Breslin and Matt McConnell. Offense linemen Tadgh Reidy, Dillion Kupper, Receiver Rob Mellilo.

The Rocks will be strong at QB,RB,WR and DB's. The upcoming sophomores are LOADED with talent. If they come of age and mix well with the upper classmen, I see no reason we wont win #20

Trinity's sophomore class will be strong, but Trinity normally doesn't play alot of sophomores. There might be a receiver or a running back or a couple others that make special teams, but I doen't expect to see any linemen get the call. They will spend the year gaining expereince on JV. They will be counted on more as Juniors since the 2011 class is so thin.

I expect St.X to be better next year and win the state title.

Next years matches between X & T will be close. Next years Seniors have played each other very close as Freshmen and JV's. I expect the same kind of game next year.

Obviously you did not see the 2007 frosh & JV games.

Obviously you have not seen the 2001, 2002, 2003, 2005, 2006, 2007 and 2008 State Championship games. Just a hunch, but I think Trinity may find a way to be competitive at the Varsity level.

It is what it is. Solid would get you a state championship ten years ago. In this decade, solid is not good enough. In order for St.X to win a championship they need to play the best athletes both ways. As we all know, that won't happen because thats not the St.X way. Not griping, just stating my personal opinion.

I think you hit the nail on the head....I can think of at least 4 juniors next year that could take this team from solid to great if they played both ways.

X has a 300 pound gorilla(or is it a leprechaun?) on its back until it beats T in a December meeting. T has Beatty, Coverdale and the System coming back, along with a group of talented and hard working kids. Throw the Frosh and JV scores out the window. Throw the regular season varsity score out the window as well as that doesn't seem to be a good predictor of Round 2 matchups either. I for one am banking on both X and T being highly competitive...as usual..hopefully with a differnt outcome than the last 4 years.

Does anybody know what Lloyd is going to have next year?

Obviously you did not see the 2007 frosh & JV games.

Actually, I did see this years JV game since I have a son that started on Trinity's JV team. I have been around for alot of games and played in the rivalry myself. All I can say is next years team will work every bit as hard as previous teams and will walk into that game with a honest respect for ST.X. Nothing has changed.

I wouldnt say they had the BEST defense, of course I am a little biased though.:sssh: I beleive the actual final, before the forfeit was 15-10 up on Log Mountain, in a game where that little player controversy, cant quite remember what it is:sssh:, saw that player score the only two Highlands TD's of the game, one being a fumble recovery.

And to these little hints at a game next year, I all I can do hearing that, :D. I truly loved the game with Boyle in the playoffs, two very talented teams in a clean game, respectful players and two hostile, but yet still respectful crowds up on their feet all night, doesn't get much better.

Funny, I still believe if you guys had pulled the upset I liked Boyle's chances much better on turf vs. Bell than Highlands.

And now back to the thread. (Sorry)

I will say it again, obviously you did not see the "2007" frosh & JV games.
