Tubby had Top 5-10 classes that didn't work out, how'd that end up for him?

How is that relevant to what I said??

Maybe being a great recruiter is about seeing through the rankings and bringing the right guys to fit your system. Ones that you can win with.

We have a winner. Jerry Meyer, Dave Telep and the like are (mostly) all very good at what they do. What they observe is very relevant, but it doesn't make a coach a great recruiter to land guys they like on the summer and prep showcase circuit. In this argument alone guys like Law, Wade, Novak, Jones and others weren't highly prized recruits. What they did was learn, produce, lead and WIN. I'll take that over a super talented kid that has warning signs and throws it all away...

Yeah maybe this year, because the SEC is way down this year. But over the years the SEC and Big 12 (TAMU) were better confrences.

There were plenty of years when C-USA was compatible with the lesser BCS conferences. Obviously it wasn't an elite conference but for a while in basketball they were on par with many others.

I didn't think he even recruited Law.

He didn't. But he's a 3 star kid he coached that became a star so I added him as a relevant unknown in the debate for both sides....

Recruiting is not the be all end all of coaching basketball games. It is my personal opinion (and it is shared by many) that Billy Gillispie is a better recruiter then Tom Crean. I AGREE with everything you said above...

I actually don't care for Crean one bit.....but he built a SOLID program at Marquette....those who think that's a sexy place to play basketball, are kidding themselves...almost all of his talent were not native Wisconsin's......Crean has achieved more thus far, and he seems to be more adept at performing in game situations. Like I said, I feel this is a clear decision.

Recruiting IS the be all end all to winning. Rankings are not. That's where your argument fell apart like many UK fans that claim Gillispie is some recruiting machine.

At the end of the day he has landed two 5 stars in his career. Jordan was a malcontent that had his eye on the NBA and the NBA alone. Patterson is a stud with a growing reputation for taking trips off.

His best recruits at A&M were under the radar guys that were still on the list of major programs that didn't get offers. Comparing any of them to guys that are 1, 2 and 3 years from playing at UK is silly. And you know it...

Im not sure what you are talking about...But go ahead and say whatever makes you feel better about yourself.

I'm talking about recruiting. Not sure you have been doing the same blindly defending Gillispie. I don't need to win this argument to know the facts. But thanks for playing...

A growing reputation for taking trips off?

Are you serious?

I don't agree with that at all as well.

Thats what I was thinking...

Nothing more than what I'm told from people evaluating for the next level.

I don't think it's right for guys like Patterson and to a lower extent Gates. That doesn't mean it isn't out there.

Those guys get 6 figures. Maybe we'll both get there some day "hopeabrother"... ;)
