December 12, 200817 yr Will be used for storing music, home movies, and pictures. Any suggestions. I plan on buying one as well, backing up my files, and re-formatting my laptop, it's a mess.
December 12, 200817 yr Actually, I'm talking my work into getting one for me. I spend way too much time burning CD backups, and Macs just haven't quite mastered speeding up the CD burning process.
December 12, 200817 yr I can't recommend a specific brand, but I have a 40 gig with stuff I just wouldn't have room for on a desktop or laptop. Even 40 isn't enough, will likely have to get a 80 or 160 someday.
December 12, 200817 yr We have a Fantom Drive external hard drive and it's always worked great. Never had a problem out of it and very easy to use.
December 12, 200817 yr I have always used Western Digital and have never had a problem with any of them. You can get one for about $175.
December 12, 200817 yr I've seen some 1TB ones i've been thinking about getting for my video production and such. They were around $175-$200 at Best Buy.
December 12, 200817 yr I've always been partial to Western Digital, though I have used Maxtor as well.
December 12, 200817 yr We have two Maxtor 3200. They're 320 GB for about $125.00. Mrs Coldweather uses them for photos.
December 12, 200817 yr I have one made by Seagate Technologies. I like it because it doesn't have a power cord like my old one did. It gets its power through the USB port just like charging an iPod. I would highly recommend it to anyone.

December 12, 200817 yr ^ I had a 200GB drive that was fried in the big windstorm earlier this year. The computer and everything else was fine... but I lost a LOT of music. The amount of stuff that just vanished in a heartbeat was incredible. It's also why I'm now so dedicated to Seagate and their drives without needing a wall plug for power.
