I think there are several teams in Louisville getting overlooked. Besides St. X, you've got Eastern, Ballard, Manual, and Seneca who all (to use a quote from a previous poster) would have given S-K "all that they wanted."

 

And Simon Kenton barely squeezed into the playoffs on the last regular season district game as the #4 seed in N. Ky. So there are probably some other N. Ky. teams that would given those Louisville schools "all they wanted". Like I said earlier, get past T and X and it is even.

I would like to see how the populations of these "areas" compare. The way I look at the 'best' football would be to put together an area all star team and play each other. No idea who would win, but I'm a little biased like most in this thread are so I give the nod to NKy (way better from top to bottom).

Not to branch too far, but if we were doing all star teams from NKY and LOU, I would think that we would indeed win the contest.

Has there ever been an effort to organize a "NKY/LOU CHALLENGE", ie. one weekend where there are 10 or so games one the schedule pitting the two regions against one another? This kind of thing is all the rage in college basketball and might add some extra interest to early season matchups.

The AP All State team (1st and 2nd team) had 10 players from Louisville and 7 from N. Ky. Louisville wins but ... closer than you thought?

Louisville is also almost entirely 6A with a smattering of teams in other classifications.

Two State Champs from Louiyville:D and two from NKY I would say pretty excellent football is played in both places. Whats Lexington's excuse:D?

Because the majority of Louisville's football is in the 6A class. Are they to be punished because they don't have that many teams in lower classes?

 

The question asks simply, "Where is the better football played?"

 

There is no better football played in the state than at Trinity and Xavier.

 

If you want to re-phrase the question and say who has the best football from top to bottom...or "if you average all the teams, who is the best"...it might change the debate.

 

But, the question lends itself to merely looking at the best teams in each region and Louisville holds a clear advantage.

Its easy to rank Male ahead of Boone County. Male lost to a red hot Simon Kenton team that also beat Boone County out of the playoffs after losing big to them during the season.

 

If you look at the rest of the schedule, with the exception of Ballard, all of Male's losses were to team's better than Boone County...3A champion Central, Eastern, Manual and Simon Kenton. Two of Boone County's losses (Scott County and Madison Central) were to teams Male beat.

 

I won't argue about the rest of the rankings, but my top 11 is right. And, that should be evidence enough that the better football is in Louisville...

 

Conner? Better than Male? No way.

If you do not include St. X and Trinity, Northern Ky has it in the bag. NKY plays don't stop smash-mouth football where as louisville teams just cruise into the playoffs. NKY is always a fight.
