Once again I think NCC's tough schedule has made them a very good team. 2 of their wins are against teams in the state finals, Beechwood and Simon Kenton. Great job Breds, it was good to see NCC get some pressure on their QB, he is a nice player.

I agree Joe cox has been a beast on defense the last few games. He looks like he's really having fun also. Chris Kelly had a nice interception, only a sophomore he's going to be an awfully good football player on both sides of the ball. Greg Willett and Mark Kelly are having outstanding years, it's fun to watch.

The answer to your question is we still would have lost, New Cath was and would still have been the better football team. Why is it that around 50 or so kids can be there 6 days a week and 5 hours a day and others can't it is simple they in my mine are kids that want to and are football players, the kids that you mentioned above are not they are and always have been basketball players and i'm sure that they devote as much or more time to their sport as the football players do. So lets not play the card that the football coaches are to demanding and make the kids put to much time in to play football. Football is a tough sport to play anyone can shoot a basketball or hit a baseball or kick a soccer ball but it takes special kids to play the tough and physical game of football.

 

 

I think what Bubba is getting at has some merit. If you notice, we normally get beaten in the playoffs by teams that are deeper than we are, and beat us by having more fresh legs in the 4th quarter. Like last night, we lacked man-power to carry out our game plan. Our coaches do a great job, and no one can complain about the way our kids were prepared, but I think all coaches, including our own should always look for ways to bring those x factor players, the ones who normally wouldn't play football onto the field. After last night, I'd look up and down the halls on monday trying to find those extra bodies, and try to get more players playing only 1 side of the football. It means so much come December.

 

With that said, congrats Corbin on a fine season, and Good luck next week NCC.

In my mine no matter who we would of had running the ball i still think we don't win this game because this game was won up front with New Cath dominating our front five, not only did #74 not have a good game but the whole offensive front was over matched.

 

In my mind only one man could have helped this game. Nice game plan. The Campbell kid could not have been stopped, Would not have been stopped. When you have a leader you must let him lead. Give him the ball 20-30 times on something other than a 3rd an whatever. Watkins was hurt. Duh!!! 2-years in a row they did not give Campbell an opportunity to help his team. Good job again. Maybe he will get the chance at the next level. Hounds we are all proud of you! NCC congrats and good luck.

I've already said that the better team won. But with Watkins injury why not give Campbell and Taylor a few more tries?

 

#74 is going to be a great player but he was beat on nearly every play tonight.

 

You can't play freshman at this level and expect to win..JMO.

Newport's speed was too much. Corbin had -17 yards rushing in the second half. The difference of the game was Newport's speed and defensive effort in the second half.

 

Congrats to Corbin. Coach Jewell and his staff did a great job and continues to be one of the best staffs around.

It was a pleasure to watch the Redhounds this year.

 

How many yards did we lose in sacks? Had to be close to 75 or so. How many first downs did each team have?

I think after a couple of Campbell runs that only gained 2 - 4 yards that Coach Farris kinda gave up on that option. That could have been a mistake with Watkins injured. It had been established that NCC has had problems with tackling this year and who better to take advantage of that? Michael Campbell. A couple passes on 1st down early might have loosened up that D some as well, other than the Leslie game I'm not sure if we ever passed on 1st down.

 

#74 was outmatched tonight on the OL. He is a freshman and an excellent lineman, but we probably should have tried one of the senior lineman who can play just as well.

 

Those senior lineman maybe could have possible taken a few reps to rest kids like Creech, Taylor & Hayden who were going both ways against fresher guys from NCC, but I don't go to the practices to see how they perform there. I do know that we seem to tire in the 4th qtr. against the better teams, though with all the blowouts Corbin had, it's possible that they were not accustomed to having to play all out 4 quarters that one must play at to beat teams such as NCC. NewCath was just the better team.

The injuries to Corbin's backfield were a little too much to overcome for the Hounds offensively. (We fought the same thing for an entire sason over here.)

The run was just not there for the Hounds tonight. Little bit of NCC, little bit injuries, it was just hard to move the ball.

 

NCC has a really quick defensive unit.

Someone on the NCC staff did an excellent job in their scouting and the players knew their assignments and carried them out. That impressed me more than anything else about NewCath.

I might be wrong but Creech only plays DL, Hayden plays a very few snaps on DL.

 

On the OL Lewallen, Morris and Mills go only 1 way. The only linemen going both ways the entire game is Taylor and French if you count him as a lineman.

Officiating did not lose this game for Corbin. I just couldn't understand an unsportsmanlike before the ball was snapped. The one and only holding call of the night after both teams had obvious holds throughout the game. And the no call pass interference. All in all the refs called a decent game.

I thought Kues was the player of the game for NCC. Kelly is a good back, probably the 3rd best we have seen this year (Hayden from LCA and the kid from Pikeville). It is Kues that makes this offense tick. He's a magician with the ball.
