Before you say Corbin is independent......we are, but it just doesn't work the same. Laurel Co. will allow students to attend Corbin but not student/athletes. And they do have to pay tuition if attending out of district.

 

Yeah, it never seems to work the same way.

I want to thank Corbin for their excellent hospitality. I was especially impressed with the very sweet woman at the front gate. When I came in she showed me where the restrooms, visitors section, and concession stands were. Very, very nice. I used to go to school at Cumberland and I knew that it would be a classy experience all around.

IF our defense did call hut (which I very seriously doubt) you probably weren't there to hear it. We have not been called or warned of any thing close to that on the season. either way, it wouldn't have had an affect to the outcome of the game, if you know when it happened. Nor would the issues with the clock.

My "adopted" son...which means he is not flesh and blood but is at my house all the time anyway (and eats all my food!) heard it. He was right on the line and I knew as soon as I saw him pointing and getting upset that it had happened. My son (his best friend), also heard it and he was lined up right next to him.

This has been discussed many times on the public/private forum. In a nutshell, I just believe all teams should be on an even field, and right now they are not. It's not your fault or the kids from NCC. I have no problem at all with any of the kids from NCC or any private school student. It's just ashame that the KHSAA permits what goes on. I don't want to get into a public/private debate right now, so this is the last I'll comment on this.

 

Bottom line, privates try to get some of our better players with no penalty. If we try to encourage a kid outside our district to attend Corbin....we're in trouble.

Well I can assure you that student/athletes from Newcath are not encouraged to go there, they attend NCC because they choose to be there and want to be there not because some coach promised them something or they are receiving some kind if "scholarship" or "grant" to help pay their way

They did not call HUT but said BINGO which was a call for the players to move over. No intent to mimic the other teams cadence---just trying to direct our players to cover. It has been done this way all year and we've had no problems with it. It probably did not affect the outcome but a warning should have come before the penalty. Our coaches would never direct them to do something illegal or unsportsmanlike.

NewCath gets students from Northern Campbell Co. predominately from Cold Spring north. We're not getting kids from Cincinnati and very, very few if any from Kenton Co. I'm fairly certain that the playing field is not as unlevel as you think.

If it happened, and it sure sounds like it did, it was not good sportsmanship or very smart on the Corbin players part to simulate the snap count. I know that NCC was called for illegal motion a couple of times(which may have been caused by this), but in the end it came back to haunt Corbin at a very critical time, which I guess was justice.

Clearly you could tell that NCC was in command from the start of the game, I give a lot of credit to #42 for gutting it out that was very couragious. I believe if he was healthy the outcome would not have been any different, NCC was the better team by far. Keep in mind that NCC has a lot of there players going both ways as well, Kelly brothers, Parr, Smith, just to name a few.

 

The schedule NCC played this year paid off, if Corbin plays the same schedule they would have lost about 4-5 games in my opinion, don't get me wrong I think they had a good team and played hard. I don't know a lot about the teams Corbin played but I would have to say they did not play a more physical than they did Friday night.

If you look at it, most of the players are either sons or nephews of former players. That's why they come out. I know that my cousin is 3rd generation at NewCath. Out of the 7 male grandchildren on my Mom's side that went to NewCath 6 played football. Our "family" Thanksgiving flag football game has turned into a NewCath alumni game due to all of our friends playing. You grow up hearing about things like the '76 Lloyd/NewCath game and watching Scott Wiggins and Rob Sandfoss beat Beechwood for the first time. Additionally, many are good football players because many grow up in either the Ft. Thomas League, or playing for in the NKYFL. Additionally, NewCath has a Jr. High team that was very good when the current varsity squad was there.

Mark Kelly is the difference maker he runs hard and has very good speed, the tackles he breaks are awsome. What I could not understand and I know Corbin scouted them is when they punted why did they punt it right to Kelly he is a great special teams player.

I believe that NCC is the better team, but not by far the better team. If Watkins was healthy he most likely would have broken off a couple of long TD runs with the box stacked the way it was, because once into the secondary he would have likely scored, he just did not have the explosiveness to get through the line. That may or may not have loosened up the defense, we will not know if that would have made a difference or not though this year. NCC is the better team, even if Corbin is at full strength. Corbin could beat them, but things would have to go the Redhounds way to do so.

I didn't think that NCC's offensive line dominated Corbin's defensive line at all. I think that NCC's total offense was only around 250 yards or less.

 

I'm not sure what happened in the punting game as he usually punts much better than he did Friday. Kelly(I love the way he plays) made a couple of huge returns, although after re-watching the game he fielded the second one with one knee on the ground and it should have been marked at that spot.

I too watched the game on tape and did not see his knee touch. Kelly ran for over a 100 yards so the line controled the game. As for Watckins I still think the results would have been the same, NCC was in there back field all night and I not sure he would hae even goe started, NCC is a very physical team and Corbin could not have beaten them regardless of the situations.
