Corbin did the best to stay with a superior team. Forgotten, is that NCC threw an interception in the end zone on 1st down that makes the score 14-0, and NCC DB dropped an interception that ends the only threat the Hound posed, which the Hounds scored a few plays later. Also forgotten, NCC didn't even have to use their lethal passing game to get through this game.

There are no meaningless touchdowns when you are playing a team the caliber of Corbin

 

That TD had no "meaning" to the outcome of the game.

No one is saying that we were cheated out of the game. But for a ref to call an unsportsmanlike penalty on a player when he is only calling out a defensive formation is not real good. What do you think?

 

NCC's coach said, "I thought our defense really stepped up in the second half, we did a good job in not allowing their running backs to have a big play." NCC's D was very good, but our running game was not there because you simply can't run the ball on one good foot. When Watkins reinjured his foot last week we knew this week would be real rough and then in the first half he turned it again, he basically was finished then and probably should not have played offense the second half at all. Campbell only carried the ball 4 times for 14 yards. Watkins carried it 14 times and I would say in his condition that was 10 times too many. But its over and the best team won. NCC's O and D lines dominated the game. They are big and very good.

 

Good luck to NCC next week. More than likely we will meet again next year.

 

 

 

The running game was not there because NCC was able to load up the box. Corbin did not adjust and NCC was able to sit in that defense all night. They basically ignored Corbin's WRs on first and second down. When there are 7-8 guys stacked up in there it is difficult, if not impossible, to run the ball or to block them all in the passing game. I don't know how many times I heard negative fans calling the OL out...heck there are 5 of them and NCC brought no less than 7 defenders the majority of the night. The NCC defense was allowed to dictate this game from the outset...it is nearly impossible to have success on offense when you are facing 3rd down and 7+ all night long.

 

NCC's depth was also a major factor; with Corbin's injuries being glaringly obvious. I really think Corbin missed Watkins more on defense in the second half. The kid played with a lot of heart; I thought he was seriously injured last week when he was rolled up on late in the game. He is a good player.

 

Corbin had a good year and they have nothing to be ashamed of. They are certainly disappointed though, because Coach Jewell and his staff set a high standard. They always set high goals, and the goal year in and year out at Corbin is to get back to the championship game. When you start out with such a lofty expectation then it is tough to settle for anything less, no matter how good it appears. There are a lot of teams out there that would love to be at the level that 13-1 is less than you had hoped to achieve.

I read somewhere today that for the 'breds to win the state championship, they would HAVE to pass better than they did last night. NCC did pass some last night with not much success.

HUH? a little contradiction there? We did intercept a pass in the end zone, NCC actually called a timeout to setup that play. Just superior defense by a Corbin senior, Sewell. Score still 7-0. The pass was lazy and telegraphed.

Corbin threw an INT that created that opportunity to score and then evened it out by intercepting it back. One NCC score came on a 4th down pass that was batted by an interior lineman that then bounced to a WR in the end zone.

 

NewCath is obviously a running team, the stats and the film bear that out.

I heard none of that, last night or at any Corbin game this year. I did hear a couple yelling at the ref on the no call on the pass when kelly climbed the kid's back to break up the long third down pass in the 4th quarter. Oh, I forgot about a couple of grade school kids yelling to a NCC player that he stunk, hardly intimidating though. Ncc is a tough bunch, I doubt they intimidate very easily.

Never said that I had a seat, it was right in front of me. If you noticed, a lot of Corbin fans like to roam the sidelines.

I thought I picked up on some unsettling activities on my way out...after the turnover on 4th and long...I was too cold. Was it the crowd on the sideline near the Corbin cheerleaders? I thought I heard some of that mess on my way out the gate...Those folks are not representative of the average Corbin fan...in fact Corbin fans seem somewhat dossile when compared to those from the past.
