I too watched the game on tape and did not see his knee touch. Kelly ran for over a 100 yards so the line controled the game. As for Watckins I still think the results would have been the same, NCC was in there back field all night and I not sure he would hae even goe started, NCC is a very physical team and Corbin could not have beaten them regardless of the situations.

 

While the outcome of the game may have been the same the score would've been much closer. Watkins was at less than 50% on Friday. He has broken tackles on very physical teams time and time this year. He would've have done the same on Friday had he not been crippled up. NCC is a VERY good team but so is Corbin we just couldn't overcome the injuries and they should've adjusted the run game to compensate for that---but for some reason we did not.

I understand that is an easy excuse, but upfront NCC was much better although he may have broken some tackles the game would have been the same, unless you are telling me he would have made up for 19 points? I agree Corbin is a good team just not the caliber as NCC yet and I mean no disrespect.

I agree with you. IM4thehounds, Are you saying Watkins is the only kid that can produce a score for the Redhounds? IMO I think Corbin should have passed more, they were doing a pretty good job on the pass. Other than the two interceptions, which one was given back to the hounds.

No, I am not but the fact is our running game was depleted. Fritts was out due to a knee injury earlier in the year and Watkins has had a high ankle sprain since Oct 31st. That was essentially our backfield. So, with all things considered it would have been a very different game had we had healthy players. Corbin is an excellent team and so is NCC. Watkins has broken tackle after tackle when healthy and Fritts is shifty and elusive with both weapons the score would have been a lot closer.

If you look at it, most of the players are either sons or nephews of former players. That's why they come out. I know that my cousin is 3rd generation at NewCath. Out of the 7 male grandchildren on my Mom's side that went to NewCath 6 played football. Our "family" Thanksgiving flag football game has turned into a NewCath alumni game due to all of our friends playing. You grow up hearing about things like the '76 Lloyd/NewCath game and watching Scott Wiggins and Rob Sandfoss beat Beechwood for the first time. Additionally, many are good football players because many grow up in either the Ft. Thomas League, or playing for in the NKYFL. Additionally, NewCath has a Jr. High team that was very good when the current varsity squad was there.

I believe the margin would've been a touchdown or less. I am just saying that while your team is excellent . . . everyone was healthy. Our team was not healthy. Not the only factors that caused the loss just a big one. The outcome would've likely been the same---your OL and DL were superior to ours. I am just telling you our running game would've been much better had alll of our players been healthy. We would have been able to compete with your running game easily and the score would have been much closer.:thumb:

It wasn't just ONE player that is what I am trying to say. It hurt us in this game. It would've been a whole different ball game if EVERYONE was healthy. Trust me on this one.

I mean no disrespect but when we beat Beechwood this year there excuse was there running back was injured and that is why we beat them, I don't mean to put you in the same category as them when it comes to excuses, you guys have a fine team and I wish you luck in the upcoming seasons.

Taking Watkins and Fritts out of Corbin's lineup would be like taking Kuess & Kelly out of NCC's.

 

I really felt like the game was much closer than a 19 point game. Corbin would not normally go for it on 4th and 28 deep in their own territory after the holding penalty negated the first down, which led to NCC's last drive and score of under 20 yards. Even that score did not come easily as Corbin held 3 on the first three downs inside the 3 yd. line only to have the pass on 4th down get deflected by a Redhound lineman only to ricochet to a NCC player in the endzone. The 3rd TD was set up by a Corbin penalty on 3rd and very long as well, but I realize that winning teams don't make these kind of critical mistakes. Corbin's margin of error was not as great as NCC's and could not afford to make such mistakes.

I understand what you are saying, part of being a good team also means having depth to carry the load when those in front of them go down. NewCath is the better team and I was very impressed with the total team effort and how well the kids carried out the game plan. I also thought that they played the game the right way, sure they would lay a lick on you, but it was just good football plays without some of the extracurricular stuff and taunting that some believe are a part of the game.:ylsuper:

I realize the game was tied at half but it could have easily been 14-0 at half. As the game went on you could clearly see that NCC was moving the ball and was in command, I think they were winning the battle in all parts of the game. If I cold offer some friendly advice to the Redhounds which is play better competition during the regular season whether you win or lose it will pay off in the playoffs. NCC was battle tested and played some very good teams and were put in every situation possible there could be. I wish the Redhounds the best of look you have a very good team keep up the good work.
