December 2, 200817 yr From the article: "We will improve our practice habits immediately. We have not sustained our intensity on a consistent basis. That all changes today. We apologize to the fans who paid hard earned money and had to witness such poor execution." http://www.rickpitino.com/rpitino/main.aspx
December 2, 200817 yr Eh, tell him it's ok... We won't fault him if he were to lose a couple of more...
December 2, 200817 yr MBWC: Pitino, it's okay. Nice move on his part. I like the comment about changing practice habits. I really admire coaches who place the blame squarely on themselves. Sadly, Coach G. has had to do this a few times at UK.
December 2, 200817 yr I have heard some UL fans say that this team is better than the '96 UK team. The '96 Cats would beat this WKU team 1000 out of 1000 times. Has nothing to do with this thread. Just had to get that off my chest.

Just had to get that off my chest. Pitino would probably be the first to laugh at this. Not many teams in the history of basketball are better than the 96 Cats team. But this is probably the best team, in terms of depth, skill, and experience, that Pitino's had at UofL. Size - no. Natural talent, eh, it's arguable. But I wouldn't be shocked to see the Cardinals end up a one seed, so long as they get their heads on straight and play hard EVERY game now that they know they can lose to anybody as easily as they can beat anybody.
December 2, 200817 yr Next week Pitino will probably say something along the lines of "Now this team is practicing like that 96 team I had. Samardo Samuels is the next Jamaal Mashburn, and no, Richie aint playing tonight"
December 2, 200817 yr What is so neat with what Pitino did on his website? He apologized to the fans, then blamed the players. During his postgame yesterday, he blamed the players. Today he apologized to the fans for the performance, then statistically went down the line saying why they lost. Never once did I read that he didn't have them prepared and that was his fault. He blamed egos, practice habits, and rebounding. Anyone surprised to see that UL only sold 1,000 tickets for the game this week in Cincy?
