December 3, 200817 yr Wasn't that pretty much his MO at UK as well? He always blames the players. That's his style...or whatever you want to call it. Not saying it's good or bad, right or wrong. But, it is Rick Pitino. Every coach has their own way of dealing with things...some like to point the finger at themselves, others talk about the players. In the end, their goal is to get the message across to the players and get them to play better. Its hard to argue with Pitino's track record there as he's been pretty good throughout his career at it. It was exactly his MO at UK. Many times you hear coaches say, tonight was my fault, I din;t have them as prepared as they needed to be...I didn't get my point across as I should have...they performed poorly because I didn't do a good enough job of getting through to them...things like that. Nowhere in that piece does he accept blame as in not having them prepared and so forth. Pitino is a great coach, master motivator and a definite first team hall of famer, but accepting blame and telling it publicly is not his forte and has never been. Now some are thinking I am sipping the Haterade, but I think in retrospect, I nailed the Petrino one like a beach ball. Kragthorpe, the jury is still out. Jurich, easy to loathe him...yet he has more power than the president at UL...but his star has faded a little with his handling of the Kragthorpe situation. And for the record, I have three kids, and two are girls...mornings are lovely at our house.

Personally, Pitino's penchant for always blaming the players was the #1 reason why I never particularly liked him. Maybe that's just his method of getting the point across to his team, so again, I'm not saying its right or wrong. But, for me personally, I didn't like it. That doesn't mean I wanted him to quit coaching UK, nor was I happy when he left. I didn't care that much for him personally, but I can live with that in a coach if he's getting the job done on the court. But, its good to hear someone else agrees that he always blamed the players when he was at UK.
