December 2, 200817 yr What is so neat with what Pitino did on his website? He apologized to the fans, then blamed the players. During his postgame yesterday, he blamed the players. Today he apologized to the fans for the performance, then statistically went down the line saying why they lost. Never once did I read that he didn't have them prepared and that was his fault. He blamed egos, practice habits, and rebounding. Anyone surprised to see that UL only sold 1,000 tickets for the game this week in Cincy? You really don't like Coach Pitino, Coach Kragthorpe, Tom Jurich, Joe Schmo-UL student, or John Fan-UL fan, do you?

Isn't he the one not teaching a young Samuels how to be a good rebounder? Calling out the horrible stats isn't blaming the players, it is what it is.
December 2, 200817 yr Isn't he the one who allows bad practice habits? Isn't he the one not teaching a young Samuels how to be a good rebounder? By this logic coaches can only ever blame themselves. Coach - Well... Bob shot terrible, and rebounded extremely poorly tonight. Thats why we lost. Fan - See! Coach is taking the blame. He taught Bob to shoot and rebound, right?

He always blames the players. That's his style...or whatever you want to call it. Not saying it's good or bad, right or wrong. But, it is Rick Pitino. Every coach has their own way of dealing with things...some like to point the finger at themselves, others talk about the players. In the end, their goal is to get the message across to the players and get them to play better. Its hard to argue with Pitino's track record there as he's been pretty good throughout his career at it.
December 2, 200817 yr Author Why is this cool? It's just coach speak. It wasn't posted because it was cool....
December 2, 200817 yr It wasn't posted because it was cool.... Many of the responses implied that it was.

Coach is taking the blame. He taught Bob to shoot and rebound, right? Not sure what you're talking about. Imo this loss was a pretty fair balance of Ricks fault as well as the players. They have been horrible rebounders all year and I blame Rick for that but it's not his fault that the entire team went cold at the same time for an entire game. I also didn't seem some in game adjustments that could have been made to better help UofL.
December 2, 200817 yr Pitino would probably be the first to laugh at this. Not many teams in the history of basketball are better than the 96 Cats team. But this is probably the best team, in terms of depth, skill, and experience, that Pitino's had at UofL. Size - no. Natural talent, eh, it's arguable. But I wouldn't be shocked to see the Cardinals end up a one seed, so long as they get their heads on straight and play hard EVERY game now that they know they can lose to anybody as easily as they can beat anybody. The only one I can think of is the Jordan era Chicago Bulls.
