As a fan at this point I would be fine with letting him go, however, giving him one more year would be acceptable as well. His first really good class are just Sophmores, the Freshman class has a lot of talent, I look for them to only get better, he has another really good class put together at this point. The only place where Weis has consistently missed in recruiting is on the DL and that has shown to be a big problem on the field.

 

With the exception of Willingham Notre Dame has normally given every coach 5 years to build their team. At this point in time the difference between Weis and Willingham is that with Ty the recruiting was so poor that there was no feeling that things could get better with experience maturity etc. To some extent the lack of a solid Senior class still hurts this team. Although many of you on here will never admit it, I believe that Washington's preformance (or lack thereof) under Ty Willingham justifies that his firing after only three years was warranted.

 

Despite tremendous recruiting classes, Weis hasn't shown that he can develope players and I think some of his play calling is suspect. I'm not sure why the players on campus have not been able to generate better results on the field. Weis's offense is said to be a complicated pro-style system. Maybe it's just not suited to the college game where the NCAA mandates the time allowed for instruction with players, whereas the NFL they could spend an unlimited amount of time working things out. Perhaps what some say about the scouting services is true that they over value the potential of Notre Dame targets because they know it will help sell magazines, etc.

 

Realistically, I do not look for any changes in Weis's employment this offseason. If they buyout is anything near what is is rumored to be I don't know that the current economic conditions would lend to boosters ponying up the cast at this moment. In addition I don't really see a long line of applicants forming upon the position opening up. Perhaps GT is correct in that Brian Kelly would give it serious consideration.

 

Either way I will continue to suport the Irish win or lose. Next week will likely be ugly.

In my opinion, Weis treats ND like an NFL team. (Even by his own admission he said he was guilty of this). Weis just sees the game in X's and O's. That is fine in the NFL, where everyone can play, but at the college level you have to have instruction and player development.

 

Up front on both sides of the ball it is a complete disaster. I have never seen a team that gets manhandled the way they do up front. They have a few playmakers, imo. Claussen is not a world beater, but he is good enough to get the ball to the other guys. They are just not very physical.

I would take BK over CW, since that's not going to happen I will stick with CW.

There's no way you can justify firing Ty Willingham and then go around and justify keeping Charlie Weis. I thought Willingham should be fired, as should Weis.
