Greenup County Football Coach

Maybe we can get Mr. Rister to do another power point on the history of GC coaches records from SS compared to the record of those not from SS. I doubt if you will see that one.

Just get over it, please, just let it go.

Truth hurts.

Sammons is a good asssistant, noone has ever doubted that.

If memory serves me correctly, Coach Sammons took Portsmouth West to the championship game in OHIO before taking his dream job at GC. For the record - he's more than a good assistant.

Truth hurts.
I feel fine, and I might be from SS.

where did this come from?

I totally agree with this statement, but he'd be the first to tell you that the talent level across the river is a little different than it is here. Larry Hall would tell you the same. Still, a great accomplishment by coach Sammons.

A joke, and a pretty funny one at that.

The new coach, or hopefully one of his qualified assistants, will need to bring a focus on defense. This is one area that could see some impovement with practice on hitting and tackling. Very little practice time, under Sammons, was spent on defense. The boys have a great deal of talent, and most have played together since their early JFL days. I saw alot of bad tackles this year...

One other suggestion is that the new coach be required to get involved with JFL and the Middle school programs. When TJ was here he went to the JFL and middle school games and practices. He shared information and was there to encourage the "young musketeers in training." Sammons never left the High School. :walk:

As for all the negativity, and boy there is more politics here than I have ever seen in my life, I really hope it will change. There are quite a few parents who were discouraged from volunteering because of this.

Great post!:thumb:

I guess I am a little confused by the Greenup Co saga. There has to be good athletes in GC, but will have to form some type of transportation to ever get those kids to and from Practice/games.

Some of the confusing things are:

Mr. Rister did a power point presentation on GC football, and sounds like a good one at that, but isnt this the same Rister that ran Baseball tournaments in Maysville and just moved back to Greenup once that oppurtunity was gone? Why did he leave Greenup in the first place? Job? Family?

Mr. Preston is mentioned quite often about the Head Coach position. Seems you guys say he only has two years experience? Not enough to be a Head Coach. I also believe it was mentioned he was at Boyd under Damron as well. I believe he coached the Middle School after he was the Radio Announcer. He coached the Middle School, simply because other coaches turned it down before he offered. With that being said, by no means downing Preston, he could be a great coach, just saying that is not much experience.

TJ Maynard should still be at Greenup if they had any sense at all. The man even had to wash the players uniforms every week......

TJ is a great coach, no doubt but I would venture to say he had to deal with the same things that have been going on at our program for years, that is probably one reason he doesn't want to come back, don't know TJ very well, just a hypothesis. That being said we need a Big change in every aspect, when this coach is hired, everone needs to give him the support needed to get his program on the right track, again 41% winning for the life of the program is not a successful program. If we don't give this coach everything he needs to be successful, we will have continued failure no matter how good of a coach he truly is, we have had some great coaches but the football program has been the redheaded step child at the high school, stats and history don't lie.

I agree, the new coach has to have the support of everone involved. I wonder, though, when it is mentioned that Sammons did not recieve the support of the administration, are we talking money??? (for equipment, travel, etc.)

The nay sayers may believe that the political situation at Greenup can not change, but perhaps with new leaders at the top this is possible. For starters, how about closed practices or not letting dads in the locker room. Is Greenup the only school where the parents are mowing and painting the Field? Shouldn't the administration step up and take responsibility for maintaining the field? Purchasing uniforms? Taking charge of these types of things would show "support" for the new coach and also take the power out of the hands of some of the sideline coaches (parents.)

Don't feel too sorry for Coach Maynard, he's in a much better situation right now. The names I've been hearing are Coach Dowdy, Tackett and I think people are holding out a prayer for Coach Maynard's return. There's been talk of a coach from Ohio, just don't know who.

There are more coaches than those mentioned interested in the position. When the playoffs are over, they will start coming out if our admin gives the coach all the support needed to bring this program where it should be...
