Serious Abortion Question

Featured Replies

IMO I think we should keep Abortion. Here is why: what if a girl was raped and didn't want a child, then i think it should come into play. Any other reason the woman should be account for her actions and have the child and give it to an adoption center.

Stats show that the case you lay out is 5% of the time. Are you willing to accept 90 babies out of 100 being killed for the reason you stated?

Don't want to be unfair. Can you tell us your stance on abortion in the 10% that you claim? Do you consider these abortions murder as you do the 90% that you say are for "convenience". I really think that is the original premise of this thread.

I admit that this is a hard call and my two sides battle each other.

I don't think there is a difference from a Christian view while my wordly view wants to see the difference.

The rape is a different call than the life of the mother.

Despite the horrible situation, the baby is as innocent in the situation as the mother.

For the "life of the mother," it depends on how the situation is playing out. If during some surgical procedure the baby dies as they have to cut the cords from the mother that is not equal to the thoughout and planned process of having an abortion and if it was my wife, I would be supportive of the decision.

If the doctor says the mother's life is endangered and there is a 50-50 chance and the mother chooses an abortion, if it was my wife, I would not be supportive of the decision.

I think the life of the innoncent and unborn should be protected if at all possible. If this country is not willing to protect the most innocent and helpless part of our society, than we have no right to stand up for human rights in any other part of the world.

This country likes to refer to China's policy as a despicable population control policy while we look at it as a woman's choice in this country.

Wife lives, she is needed and has a relationship with other family members.

Hopefully she could concieve again.

I'll never face this question, she is thru having children, but someone wanted a honest answer.

lbbc...I undrstand the numbers and all of that, but I'm looking for honest answers to the question I asked. This is why I believe it's so hard to just say pro life and nothing else matters. Also, if you aren't married and have never been married, this probably isn't the question for you.

I don't think you'll get a straight answer form the hard line pro lifers.

Quite convenient to say you "wont get a straight answer from the hard line Pro-Lifers" when, of course, you ignore the response from a self-described "hard line Pro-Lifers"

Bguy, Been married for 16 years and have two great kids. I would easily sacrifice my life for any of the three (wife and children).

Mal, first post is very unfair at least to me. I have taken on this debate and been very frank and forthcoming on it for a great while. I have been very transparent that it is the FIRST reason I decide on political candidates at the national and state level. There are many posters on here who could tell you my position in this debate as well as I could.

I was not saying anything just reciting stats. The prochoice hold the rape and mother's life banners up and give the impression that that is the a good number of abortions that occur. And that is NOT the case.

I wanted everyone to be clear when they are discussing this issue, exactly what they are discussing. A scenario that occurs 6% of the time. And let's add that just because "the mother's life was in danger" label is placed on the scenario, I do not believe that the mother would have probably died in many of those cases.

I have no facts to dispute your 6%, but for thread I will go along with it. The reason I am pro-choice is because the 6% diserve to have that choice. Pro life will never be happy till they stop all abortions.

I am divorced, but I would have chosen my wife over my unborn fetus.

I am pro-life, just to start this out.

However, if I was in labor and my husband was told that to deliver the baby will likely kill me, I would want whatever measures needed to happen in order to save me. This may be selfish, but I feel like if every opportunity to save the baby is taken and he/she still does not make it, I did not have the intent to abort the child. In fact, I more than likely would be devastated. It does not make me or my husband a bad person for saving my life. An abortion is different IMO.

Now as another person said in here, on the flip side, if a man was pointing a gun at me and my 5 year old daughter or son, I'd without a doubt take the bullet, beg and plead for the person to kill me as opposed to my child.

This may be confusing, but I have thought about "medical emergencies" that could happen during my pregnancy and if delivering the child would kill me, I'd do everything i could to save the unborn child up to the point where it would result in my death.

Honestly, I believe you and most women feel the same, but some just cant, or won't admit it.

I have no facts to dispute your 6%, but for thread I will go along with it. The reason I am pro-choice is because the 6% diserve to have that choice. Pro life will never be happy till they stop all abortions.

I do not think that is accurate or either a much too broad sweep of the brush in painting pro-lifers.

I can't answer your question since your hypothetical situation is all but impossible. In such a situation, the baby would NEVER be aborted. The doctor would perform an emergency Cesarean in order to save the life of the mother.

I have no facts to dispute your 6%, but for thread I will go along with it. The reason I am pro-choice is because the 6% diserve to have that choice. Pro life will never be happy till they stop all abortions.

So 94% of the babies who are killed through abortions that are nothing more than birth control is okay? Since most pro life people believe abortion is murder, would you expect them to feel any other way?

I don't think you'll get a straight answer form the hard line pro lifers.

I'm a hard-line pro-lifer. I would tell the Dr. to save my wife. Upon recovery my wife would be angry and depressed and we would then have to deal with that. The evidence of these types of things occurring, in today's day and age, is so miniscule that it is not even statistically relevant. If the Dr. was required to terminate the baby in order to prevent internal damage and death of my wife, it is not an "abortion." It also is not murder because the choice made, both by me and the doctor in carrying out my instructions, is justified as "defense of others."

Therefore, I do not believe that this is an abortion thread.

I don't think you'll get a straight answer form the hard line pro lifers.

I believe for some, abortion is never an option.

For some they would be willing to go back to the day when abortion was allowed only when the mother's health was endangered or when incest or rape was invovled.
