Serious Abortion Question

Featured Replies

Did not ignore anyones answer. And yes, if you have to save one or the other and it's the mother, then thats aborting the unborn child.

Abortion, or at least to me, is when you take actions to prevent life from happening. If you take every action to save the infant, and the infant still dies, then it is not an abortion.

Are you saying that a doctor would say to me, in the operating room, something to the effect of, "Look, unless I remove the baby from the womb and stick a scissor into its head and then remove the brain from the child's skull, then your wife will die?" I can't imagine a doctor saying that. I can see a doctor saying that we need to deliver the baby now, and I would respond that you best take every action to save its life.

And I'd like to add because I have seen this said here on the boards, and other places, but using the birth control pills, or condoms, or whatever are NOT anywhere even in the same realm of what an abortion is.

Certain forms of birth control are a chemical abortion.

LBBC answered your question very, very well, but I will ask you this: If someone had to die be it your child or you, who do you choose to die?

My guess and I think you will agree, most parents that I know would rather die, that let their child die!

So what makes it different to you, to allow your unborn child to die in this case?

Baseballguy, I answered your question, but it doesn't seem to me you answered mine... Why would you allow your unborn child to die, if you would die, to save your child who was born alive? So what is the difference to you?

I guess I have misunderstood. I think at one point you said you thought any form of birth control was a form of abortion.

I don't like abortion used as a birth control either, but I will stay pro-choice because I don't think I should be the one to choose that a woman should die. I think she should have the choice to live or die when her life is in danger.

So, if the amendment was proposed to say no abortions except in the case of rape or mother's life endangerment would you support it?

You were one of the few who answered the question and I 100% respect your answer. I guess for me, the thing would be like some have said, I would hope my wife and I could have other children. Personally, I would feel we had built a bond that could be un matched and all though there's a bond with the un-born child, it's just not the same. Once your child is born and mine is now 20, things change. I have discussed this with my wife and she does agree with me. The only conclusion I can come up with, is every one is different and that's ok in my book.

I will pay your BGP dues if you can provide me with ONE documented case of a mother who was at the hospital to deliver her full-term baby that had to have an abortion to save her life. Just 1 case.

Absolutely--this is an argument about something that simply does not occur. The worse case scenario for me would be a detected cancer that needed chemotherapy during the early weeks of pregnancy. If allowed to grow, the cancer would probably kill me, but the chemo would kill my unborn child. In that case, I would pray for God's guidance and protection. I can state unequivocally, however, that I would not sacrifice my child's life for my own. My husband would grieve for me, but would agree with me.

No. I find them all immoral, but only certain types are abortion.

The Raped woman might need its own thread, to me thats also very difficult.

I'm pro life. If I was raped, or anyone I know was raped, and became pregnant due to it, I would totally support an abortion. A child should not be born into those circumstances and the person who was raped should not have to suffer that. I would not want my first child (or any child for that matter) a product of rape. Sorry. These situations account for VERY FEW, meaning like 1%, of all abortions. The overwhemling majority of abortions are due to irresponsible people who are terminating the life of a baby for selfish reasons and could not take proper measures to prevent the pregnancy in the first place.

Why not? Oral contraceptives do the same thing that an abortion does. It removes cells fertilized and ready to develop into a baby from the woman's body. The fertilized egg cannot attach to the uterine wall. Conception has occurred, but "the pill" prevents further development and the cells are flushed from the body.

Just because it is easy and a nice and easy package, doesn't mean that oral contraceptives don't have the same outcome.

So, if the amendment was proposed to say no abortions except in the case of rape or mother's life endangerment would you support it?

Throw in incest and I will say yes.

Abortion is the deliberate killing of a baby- for example, the doctor will remove the infant from the womb and cut open the child's skull with a scissor, then remove the brain.

Removing the infant from the womb prematurely to save the life of the woman, while at the same time trying to save the life of the infant is different than the aforementioned procedure/murder. This is NOT abortion.

As to the bolded, this is describing partial birth abortions - most abortions do not do this - and the order is backwards. The fetus is removed last.
