"I feel like God intended for this man to be President. He does not want us to have hate in our hearts for each other but love. As Barack Obama said last night, May God Bless America!!! I feel like we are back on the right track, please just give him a chance!"

I read the above on another site and wanted my fellow BGPers opinion on it and the question I asked.

Wouldn't most religious people answer "Yes" to this question? I mean, do you feel "it's all in God's plan"???

I don't believe in pre-destination which is what I feel like you're asking, so I voted no. What I'm saying is, I don't believe God put Barack Obama on Earth so that he could be president of the United States. I feel he put him here just as he did everyone else to live a life according to his will. What each of us makes of that life is up to us.

I voted yes, simply because 2012 is right around the corner and god knew Obama could help to jump start the end of the world as US President.:scared:

Now before any of you go crazy, I'm totally serious....:rolleyes:

God is too busy for things like that.

Since I'm a person who believes God doesn't micromanage his creation I have to say no.

Couldn't say. I certainly believe in providence but would make no guesses as to how it works or why.

I guess it's possible if you actually believe that God has a master plan for him and this country, but given his stance on abortion, I say no. And not making light of this thread, because it is serious, but if we were to be told it were true, the ACLU would be trying to sue God because of separation of church and state laws.

This is what I told my upset mother yesterday. If you have faith in God then I think you have to believe his will is more important than your wishes. So I say Yes. I don't agree with everything (a lot of things) Obama stands for but I think you have to have trust in God + pray for all of our leaders. JMO

I think God has given humans the gift of free will. As a society, we chose Obama as our next president with that free will. Did God know it would happen? Sure. But we have the free will to make our own decisions and this election was one of them.

If you believe in the Bible He does. He tells as much in Daniel 2:21. To put it context here King Nebuchadnezzar was having all kinds of troubling dreams and the Astrologers could not interpret them so the King essentially orders all those Astrologers, Mystics, and Wise men (Godly) people killed because it seems no one can interpret his dream (and you think we've got it bad?).

So anyway the Kings Henchmen comes to kill Daniel, who was a Wise Man, and Daniel asked why. The Guard told him and Daniel asked to be spared if he could tell the King what the dream was. The Guard agrees, Daniel goes home, and God lays on him the way He operates:

Daniel says:

20 Praise be to the name of God for ever and ever;

wisdom and power are his.

21 He changes times and seasons;

he sets up kings and deposes them.

He gives wisdom to the wise

and knowledge to the discerning.

22 He reveals deep and hidden things;

he knows what lies in darkness,

and light dwells with him.

23 I thank and praise you, O God of my fathers:

You have given me wisdom and power,

you have made known to me what we asked of you,

you have made known to us the dream of the king."

I have bolded the relevant part of this thread. The New Covenant Jesus establishes doesn't change the way God goes about laying out His plans, it just changed the way we, as His creations, come to communicate and to know Him. Jesus allowed God to evolve from a somewhat impersonal relationship to a personal one (as was His plan all along)- so everything Daniel says here still applies. That means that God does indeed control what takes place and he places leaders in charge for good and for bad.

Hopefully people understand a few things. For one, our citizenship as Christians is not ultimately in the United States of America, but in heaven. Our hopes and our loyalties lie first and foremost there. If you put your hope into the US of A you will end up with nothing. The only hope we have is in God.

Secondly if you are one of the ones that was discouraged by this election, don't be. Our true King is always on the throne and His purposes He promises will go ever forward. God is still in control no matter who runs the man made country that is America. People can still walk into any church in the US any Sunday freely. And even more importantly, and hopefully, those churches are bringing the Gospel to people so they don't have to walk into the church on Sunday morning initially. That's what the Great Commission is all about- bringing hope to the hopeless.

God knows what He is doing. While I like Barack Obama and I think he will be a fine President, my hope is not found in him or any man or political leader. I think we all need to take a deep breath and trust in God. Whether you personally like it or not, Barack Obama is our president now. As such, he deserves the same prayer and support your candidate would have received.

There is that old hymn "They Will Know We are Christians By Our Love" and if you ever expect President-Elect Obama or any lost person to want to get to know God then God is giving us all a big chance. How many Christians react now to having a President they don't like and policies in the world they may not like is most certainly a test from God. If we are to truly desire to be as Christ-like as possible then they will know we are Christians by our love and by our grace- not by our hate.

God knew who would be President in 2008. He allowed it to happen. Just like Israel cried "give us a King" he finally gave them what they had asked for . . . and the Nation of Israel discovered that it was probably not the best thing. God is still in charge no matter who is elected. I will continue to pray for our nation and its leaders. I will support leaders who hold to protecting our security, and above all, the unborn.

Someone educate me a little. My daughter was telling me about Revelations and the beginning of the rapture. What does it say about who would be the new leader?

I would agree with Saul but what about David?

I voted no, but I feel some explanation is needed. I don't think God intends for either one to be President. God just gives us the free will to decide for ourselves. God knows what we will pick but the beauty of free will is he lets us do it anyway.

Read The Shack.....it gives an interesting perspective to how God feels about politics and authority.
