I guess we'll all just see how this plays out for the next 4/8 years with Obama. I voted for him in the primary, and was onboard because he seemed like a positive choice. But then I looked at some details.

 

1) I don't know what he stands for, other than "change". He's been very vague.

2) I never trust the one with the most money, for those "debts" must somehow be repaid. I was sorely disappointed when he broke his vow of public financing.

3) He doesn't have the money to do what he wants, which means he's getting it from me somehow, likely taxes.

4) I don't like all the shady characters in his life, some he still has contact with today. He doesn't give legit answers to questions about this subject, and even accuses detractors of dirty politics, even if they just quote his own words.

5) He played the "race card" in a pre-emptive strike, kinda sleezy.

6) Look at his senate elections, lots of lawsuits against his opponents, shenanigans etc there.

7) The media is so biased I jus don't know what they are hiding. Where can yu fins the truth if the news suppresses it.

8) If Dems control all 3 branches, I will be very nervous. He has some radical ideas that may come out if he yields that kind of power, especially if he gets a 2nd term.

9) What's up with his family? He has little contact with his half brother, his aunt, his paternal grandmother (who said he was born in Kenya). What's up with his bizarre family structure, and why is he ostracized by so many.

10) Wealth redistribution. He downplays it, but look back at his views as a lawyers and a professor. That is scary. Add to that the other democrats with very extreme views, ie Barney Frank, etc. They wan't to buy out my 401K, rob the rich and give to the poor (I don't want there money unless I earn it) and bankrupt KY's coal industry. Obama's words, not mine.

 

There are probably many more things, but since I was an Obama supporter until a few months ago, I don't have all the negatives engrained in my memory yet. The proof will be in the pudding. I am not worried about it, which was my view with Bush. I knew he was horrible, but it took 4/8 years to show his short-comings. I suspect the same will happen here, assuming the news reports it the same way.

I will need help on the exact scripture, but doesn't the Bible say that we would not recognize the anti-Christ as such? If so, if someone says that he will be, doesn't that mean that he won't be?

I'm not half afraid of Obama as I am of Pelosi, Reed & Company. Along with their long willing list of fanatical liberal media zealots (with their tingling legs at the sight of Barack); I can see a nation in the mold of San Francisco politically--Beautiful city, but not my idea of America??

I agree. That is one thing I'm scared about.

I'm not really afraid. He is my President so I will try to support him the best I can now. My biggest fear is that I have worked hard and sacrificed a lot to go get 2 degrees and a solid job. I did things the right way. I feel like I have done things the right way to go make money. It REALLY ticks me off while I'm out working knowing all the people around here that could work but are too lazy! No excuses they are flat lazy! A chunk of my paycheck is supporting them and more than likely a bigger chunk is now going to go to them. That is my gripe!

To answer your question, I was in the 8th grade when Bush first took office, and was barely able to vote in 2004. At that time, I was way too naive, and didn't know enough about politics and how our system really worked to realize the dangers of it. I like to think I've learned quite a bit since then.

I don't really fear an Obama presidency as every time I took one of those tests my percentages came out agreeing with his policies about 45% of the time. Unfortunately, the policies I feel stronger about are also those where I disagree with him. With about 56 senate seats he will have to stay near the center in order to get things passed so I don't think there is much to fear. I did hear on TV this morning that yesterday John McCain was Barrack Obama's biggest problem but today it's Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid.

So after 8 years and 20 out of 28, 28 out of 40, a four year term can undo all of that? For 40 years?

I will respect our new president as he was elected by the majority of the people. I will hope and pray that he does right by our country and all her citizens and if he does, I would vote for him in a 2nd term. However, the question of why I was concerned about his presidency are very simple and all policy related issues, not in any particular order.

 

1. His support for the Freedom of Choice Act which, if passed, will override all regulations on abortion in the USA and make abortion legal at anytime during the pregnancy, up to delivery. It will also eliminate parental consent and will fund some abortions. This is frightening.

2. Increase of capital gains taxes. This will make the markets less liquid which is exactly what we don't need.

3. Increasing minimum wage by 46% in a 2 year span. This will not create more jobs and will actually have the opposite effect.

4. Reinstatement of the inheritance (death) tax which would require 43% of any inheritance (valued over $250k) be paid to the federal government. That means if your family farm is valued at $250k, to keep it in the family, you would owe the federal government $107,500 to keep it. This tax forced Joe Robie's family to sell their family business, the Miami Dolphins, when he passed away and did the same with many family farms.

5. Raising taxes on ANYONE will not have a positive impact on the economy. No country has ever taxed its way to prosperity. The moving target for who will see their taxes go up concerns me as well. I have seen 2 different clips of Obama stating "Anyone making under $250k will get a tax cut" then later "Anyone making under $200k will get a tax cut".

6. Raising taxes on businesses will not encourage them to grow. We already have the 2nd highest business taxes in the world and wonder why we cannot keep more businesses from moving overseas.

7. Support for the elimination of a secret ballot in union elections. If this measure were passed as the unions want, all they have to do is present enough cards to represent a majority of employees and the union is in with no discussion and no actual vote.

8. $900 billion in proposed spending for new government programs. Our federal government is way too big as it is and we don't need more, ... we need less. And right now, we cannot afford more government. We have already printed too much money and have devalued the US dollar.

9. The increased oversight into talk radio forcing successful conservative radio stations to give equal time to liberal talk radio. I am for the freedom of speech and don't see how silencing talk radio who disagrees with certain topics is constitutional. Liberal radio has been tried, and has failed. Air America had MILLIONS of dollars pumped into it, and failed miserably. Why? There wasn't a market for it. This is a step down a dangerous path.

10. Increased cap and credits for new coal fired electric plants which will send electricity costs skyrocketing. I want to see us move in a direction towards less dependence on coal and towards cleaner technologies, but currently working in the industry, I know how hard it already is for some to pay their electric bills. This will only make it worse.

 

These are 10 issues that concern me greatly, especially given that with a democratic controlled legislative branch many, if not all, of these can be passed.
