My family did for a couple years when I was very young, but we don't now.

My girlfriend's family draws names every year. They also celebrate some weird pre-Christmas holiday called St. Nick's day or something. I think St. Nick's day is when they get their stockings. I had never heard of that before.

Our famiily (or my family) has always drawn names for christmas but this year, because of the death of our mother, we have decided to forego gifts and just get together for a nice family dinner.

My husband's family has also decided not to do gifts.....so I don't have to shop for any gifts this year except for MrRk and it's really going to feel strange not doing the last minute gift buying rush.

My wife's extended family is so large, we only buy for the kids. We buy gifts for both her grandmothers, but nothing for all the aunts, uncles, adult cousins, and all that.

On my side, there is only my brothers family and mine, so we all exchange gifts.

We buy for the kids (nephews and neices) and buy for my Mom and Dad and the rest of the adults draw names.

We do the same thing on both sides of the family.

With times be so hard on everyone on this end we are just going to buy for the young kids this year.

Yes

I have 4 siblings and 2 isiblings-in-law. We each draw a name.

I also have 6 neices and a nephew and for the first time this year a nephew-in-law. Our rule is that once you are married you join the draw names club.

One of my sisters and two of my neices are also my Godchildren so I'm on the hook for them every year.

My siblings and I usually pool our resources and buy something nice for our parents.

Not that unusual, my family has always done that too. Since you know the story of St. Nicholas is the basis for the eventual change of Sinterklaas into Santa Claus.

On my husband's side, there are 16 grandchildren, so the first cousins draw names. That keeps everyone from getting too much.

I have no family and neither does my husband this year. Our family is just the nine of us so no we arn'e going to this year. Maybe when it gets bigger.

We have got to the point that the kids draw names and us adults enjoy watching them open.

You graduate HS and no more does your name go in the pot.

The last few years that the adults did, I asked on my list that an Operation Shoebox be bought in my name.

I really don't need a $15 to $20 gift.

Now they want to pay off my home mortgage, that is another story.

We used to draw names among my siblings, but after we started having our own families we had to cut back. For awhile we bought for all the little ones, but then there were so many (21 neices/nephews on my side) we had to cut back again.

Now our children draw names among their cousins. When you turn 18, you are out of the equation. Works pretty well.

I am with lbbc, contributions to my mortgage are always welcome.

Every year, all of the kids names iare put in a hat and the adults draw as many names as the kids you have..

My wife's family, they put the names into a hat and keep pulling out and putting back till they get a relative they WANT to buy for.

This is what we also now do since the death of my dad and my mother still fighting the terrible Alzheimers disease.

The first year it was hard to get used to. However, we now enjoy the fellowship of our family and cherish every moment we have together.

We continue to buy gifts for the young kids.
