Czar, I didn't mean any offense, I clearly said "some" and that is what I meant, when a person gets on here and make an outlandish comment, someone is going to call them on it. As for the last line of my post, I was using "Johnson Central" as a synonym for some to the Johnson Central fans, not as a proper noun for all the Johnson Central fans, parents, players, and coaches.

 

I expect a good game, but not a 64 point butt whipping.

With the Eagles scoring so many touchdowns, I’m sure there has been no need to even attempt a field goal. I couldn’t help but notice that Trent Davis has accounted for 32 points in PAT’s…I don’t know how many he has missed, if any at all…but if he is truly a FRESHMAN, as the roster lists…that young man might have a state record before its all said and done.

 

FWIW, 201 PATs is the career total in Kentucky, 97 for the season and 12 in a single game.

 

What first got me thinking about JC kicking was how the game ended during the Eagles last visit to Putnam. The final of that game was 13 – 10 Ashland, but it was one of the best HS games I had witnessed in some time. During that season (2005), JC rolled into town sporting a 7 – 1 record and one of the leading rushers in the state, Ashland was 6 – 2. I know…that was then, this is now…but its interesting to note, that in 2008 Ashland allows an average of 17 points a game…JC, on the average, yields 3 points more at 20.

I'm going to have to go with the Eagles in this one. Johnson Central is on a roll and I don't think the Tomcats are going to have enough to stop it. Matney always seems to play Ashland well and for some reason alot of times the Tomcats struggle against his physical brand of football. Johnson Central is one of the elite teams in the mountains this year and they prove it Friday. I'll say:

I agree with a couple of your observations. Matney teams do play against Ashland very well much of the time…believe me, we know this in A-town, and that goes back to his Sheldon Clark days. To some extent, I agree about your reference that the Tomcats struggle against a physical brand of football too…with the caveat that the opposing team is physically much, much bigger. It was an eye opener when the Tomcats scrimmaged Campbell Co earlier this year, and we had a tough time against Bryan Station. Now…I definitely believe this group of Cats DOES like physical play and they don’t back down…but when you have 6’0” 250lbs going against 6’4” 300lbs…well, you get the picture.

 

I believe our good friend JCAlumi76 stated in post 28 of this thread that:

 

“They (JC) have good size, but by no means are they huge. They do appear to have more speed than most offensive lines but they are well coached by arguable one of the best Line coaches in the state in Tony Burchett. I would say that Ashland has more size up front than JC.”

 

When I peek at the JC roster, it looks like at least in terms of size, Ashland will match up well with the Eagles…just another reason to think this is going to be a very exciting game to witness.

With the way Ashland's season has went and the turn-around they have had they very well could be better suited for a physical brand of football, but I still think Matney is a coach that uses a diffrent kind of physical football than Ashland is used to. Matney runs the wishbone and uses alot of Belly, Veer, Option, power, and kickout plays. Most of the teams in Ashland's area play a more spread offense, or run the wing-t like Russell. It is a diffrent mind set when taking on teams that run right at you like JC. I do think that they have shown success at stopping a running attack like Central's in Ironton, but I haven't seen Ironton in years and don't know if they resemble the teams of old. Good luck to both teams, I hope it is a dandy.

I hope for a hard fought game, with both teams leaving everything they have on the field, and no one injured. As for the quarterback, I certainly am not laughing at him, or any other Central player. JC has earned the respect which they rightfully enjoy. IF JC thinks they can hang 64 points on this Tomcat defense...well...all I can say is "Go for it"....

 

Absolutely Painter, no doubt that JCHS will be a favorite but I don't think that if JC does win it will be by an enourmous score. I picked JC to win this one as well. They (JC) certainly should win but then again just maybe they won't . I would never count the Tomcats out of a game, especially at Putnam.

As for the thought of you making fun of anyone and especially a h.s. kid well.....that is just laughble. You imo are one of the most respectful posters on here.:thumb:

I look to see Ashland come to play friday night. I think they can win this game it is a matter of how much they want it.

Ashland just matches up well with JC. They have nearly the same offensive philosophy although Ashlands is alittle more open and spread out. Lets not forget that back in 2006 JC beat Ashland to a tune of 35-7. Then just 3 weeks later Ashland took JC to the wire and it took a Half Back pass for the Eagles to escape with a 28-21 victory. In that game Coach Hart put together a game plan to shut the run game of JC's down and JC had to turn to the passing game to win. The fact of the matter is Ashland respects Johnson Central and what it has done in the past 5 years, but on that field they are not intimidated by the Eagles. Coach Hart will put together a game plan to contain the Eagles, just as Coach Matney will the Tomcats. I expect JC to win, but I think it will be by no more than 2 TD's if that.

I think you are right, these two teams just seem to match up well with each other. Both teams tend to play well against each other, and with the district title on the line I expect both teams to play a little better then they have throughout the season. Should be a great game.
