Every team knows what were going to do. The problem is stopping it. There is no secret, Johnson Central is going to run the belly at you tomorrow night.

 

You have to respect a team like that. You know what formation is coming. You know what plays are coming. Johnson Central is just depending on their 11 guys being better than Ashland's 11 guys.

As to be expected, much of our bulletin board conversations are about an upcoming game, prognosticating, comparing stats, and so on…and we can easily ignore the fact that many of these young men have great success in areas outside of football.

 

Attached is a link to an article which appeared in the Daily Independent this morning (front page too, I might add) about one of our Ashland Tomcats.

 

Evan Holbrook, two year starting center for Ashland, has had a short story published in an anthology entitled “Not From Around Here Are You”. The story, “The Twilight Runners” was written during Evan’s participation in the annual Governor’s Scholars program last summer.

 

The day Ashland played Woodford Co., Evan had been invited to attend a formal book signing in Cincinnati. Unfortunately, the scheduling conflict forced Evan to choose which event he would attend….fortunately for the Tomcats, he chose to stay and play an instrumental role in Ashland’s district win. Something tells me Evan will have more opportunities at book signings.

 

Congratulations to Evan and also to one proud father….....you have raised two very fine sons.

Looking at some stats, I now think this game will be even closer then I expected before. For the most part each team's weakness matches up with a corresponding weakness of the other team. This game may come down to who passes the most. Both teams are good rushing teams, and both defend the rush pretty well also, but neither team passes much, and neither team defends the pass very well.

 

The key for Ashland to win this game is to come out mix up the run and pass. If they can do that, I think they have an exellent chance.

On paper, I agree with you, but Ashland plays well with Johnson Central, for the most part. Some teams just match up well with other teams, and for some reason Ashland matches up with Johnson Central

 

Kind of like Russell and Boyd County, no matter how good Russell is, Boyd County normally plays them close, normally closer then other teams that are, on paper, better then Boyd County.

 

Like I said before, if Ashland uses the passing game, which Hunter seems to pass well, then this could be a barn burner.

I have a difficult time explaining why this is, but your right Ram…Ashland does play well against JC. Some of the recent scores may not indicate how close the Tomcats hang with the Eagles, but I know when Ashland comes out focused and determined, things don’t come quite so easy for Central.

 

This is going to be a long 24 hours.
