Colin Powell endorses Obama

Featured Replies

Powell said he was concerned about what he characterized as a recent negative turn of Republican candidate Sen. John McCain's campaign, such as the campaign's attempts to tie Obama to former 1960s radical Bill Ayers.

"I think that's inappropriate. I understand what politics is about -- I know how you can go after one another, and that's good. But I think this goes too far, and I think it has made the McCain campaign look a little narrow. It's not what the American people are looking for," he said.

Powell, a retired U.S. general and a Republican, was once seen as a possible presidential candidate himself.

He's also pro-choice, another thing he's wrong about. Obama can have him IMO.

And if he was supporting McCain you wouldn't be talking about how this further hurts Obama's national security credentials?

Surely no one is surprised that Powell endorsed Obama? If you are, I have an autograph of George Washington signed with a blue Sharpie that I will sell you. Some things should be obvious.

^ What makes it so obvious?

What's your asking price...

I would like to ask what makes it obvious?

What kills me that he said that Palin is not ready. Really, and Obama is? Please. Then he says that he has been watching her and says that is what made he make his mind up about her and McCain bad judgement in picking her. My question is has he ever spoke to her, or is he just sitting back watching what the media wants us to think about her? Obama can have Powell.

What makes it obvious? Powell is a republican.

I think he was hinting at something racial, but I cannot speak for anyone.

That's just the jive I got from the statement.

I'm not surprised that you boys choose to use the racial card in interpreting my post. After all, the Obama camp has used it repeatedly to accuse anyone not in line with their candidate of racism. Sadly, they have gotten by with it.

The obvious comparison between Obama and Powell is that both are radically liberal in regard to social and economic issues. Powell is not an out and out socialist as is Obama but he is a kindred spirit.

But, I don't want to deprive you boys of the chance to cry "racist" as you continually do. So go for it.

Well you made the remark and then waited until I made the connection before you came back and responded, so don't cry foul too loud.

What do you expect? Four people ask you why and nothing is said. The way you laid out your statement sure made it easy to jump to a conclusion.

Nice set up though.

It might have helped if you'd have completely explained your comment, rather than putting it out there ambiguously.

In my experience, if I don't want to be misinterpreted, I'd better make sure I fully explain myself.

Of course, there's always the chance that I might post something ambiguous to stir the pot. :fire:

Exactly what I think he did here. Made a statement that could easily be taken as racial, dissapears for over an hour, and then minutes after I make the connection he jumps back in the thread and cries foul.

Nice. :thumb:

I agree completely.
