The fact that McCain strongly criticised the Iraq War effort while Powell was a part of the administration and then gave so much praise to Gen. Petreaus could not have made Gen. Powell very happy. I am surprised that it took so long for Powell to endorse Obama because I do not believe that Powell would have been given a spot in a McCain administration anyway.

If Powell had endorsed McCain, he would be portrayed as a moderate that decided that Obama was too much of a lefty, socialist or appeaser (take your pick) to be entrusted with the Oval Office.

I agree. Powell gave a cogent explanation for why he believes Obama to be the better choice for President. His explanation was based on observable examples of judgment during the campaign. All these theories of ulterior motives are just forms of damage control to explain away the embarrassment of having a respected national security figure endorse Obama. :eek:

Actually, I was using the "socialist card' because that should be the concern of those who actually financially support this country. You boys (or girls, if you prefer), chose to drag up the overused "race card". And, of course, your card trumps my card in present day political correctness.

 

On a positive note, I would strongly recommend that those who actually have accumulated some financial security do some serious financial planning prior to January 20, 2009. Surely, you boys and girls cannot find fault with this suggestion.

I'm not concerned with Obama's race. I'm much more concerned with his socialist agenda. I'm concerned with what he will do to the court system. I am concerned about the negative effect he will have on traditional Judeo-Christian practices. I am concerned about this "redistribution of the wealth" from those who contribute to society to those who do nothing but lay around, pay no taxes, live off of the rest of us, and, sadly, vote because this latter group will decide the election.

I'm not much of a fan of Powell, I don't like his pro-choice stance as I said earlier. If he would of endorsed McCain, I would have said big deal, won't really sway many either way.

No. I don't think Powell's endorsement helps or hurts either of them really. If he endorsed McCain, I don't think it would have hurt Obama a bit.

At this point in the election, I think McCains needs all the breaks he can get. This would have helped some.

What makes it obvious? Powell is a republican.

 

If you have paid close attention to Powell you would know that he is a moderate on foreign policy and a liberal on domestic and social policy.

For example, a social conservative would be thrilled with the two recent Supreme Court nominees and yet one of the reasons Powell gave for supporting Obama were these two appointments.

So now we have Warren Buffet, one of the most respected investors in the United States, and Colin Powell, one of the most respected national security and foreign policy experts endorsing Barack Obama for President.

 

So much for the 'unqualified' arguments.

Lets let everyone be honest. Your post showed that both sides have been using the race card.

 

Finally someone who gets it....There are those on both sides of the aisle that will be using the race card when they cast there vote....Personally, they should have there voting rights revoked IMO....
