Conner plays two Varsity back-to-back!

Featured Replies

The team they play on Saturday (Belmont) is 0-6 and has been outscored something like a whole bunch to zero. Before people start worrying about Trosper getting second guessed, the kids needing aspirin and ice, and books being written, lets wait and see who even plays in the second game for Conner. My guess is that the varsity plays on Friday and the JV plays on Saturday. If so, its just another typical week. The Saturday game will count as a varsity game, but its meaningless for playoff purposes. From what I understand, Trosper is a pretty smart coach and I seriously doubt he is going to jeopardize the health of any of his players.

Great research here. Does anyone knoe if the JV is still scheduled to play their game or was it cancelled due to this game. It appears that Conner will do nothing to hurt their top players, but let's face it, they will have to play thier best on Friday night and may not have much in the tank for anything on Saturday.

No matter how you spin it, this is bad...

1) If you play your JV, you're costing your varsity kids game experience prior to the playoffs. (If you told any coach that they'd only have 9 games this year when everyone else had 10, they'd have a fit.)

2) You're also costing your JV kids a game of experience because they can't play NC on Saturday. (I'd go ahead and schedule it for Monday, at this point what will it hurt?)

3) Most of the football coaches I know and that's quite a few, DESPISE getting thrown off schedule. This does that, to say the very least. You've added a bye week. When you should be lifting, running, and watching films on Saturday you're playing another game. When do you bring them in for films? Monday? That takes away from your normal schedule, even if it is a bye week. Sunday? That's a lot of football.

4) Football is a game of preparation. Every coach wants to go into every game fully prepared. A wise coach once told me that, "You can't treat one game like the Super Bowl and another game like a scrimmage. They're all important." He's 100% correct.

I'd rather take the $1000 (or whatever the contract says) penalty then play back to back.

:thumb: All great points, but this looks like a a game that can serve several purposes. As long as the JV players are available, it looks like they are going to get to play. My guess is that many of the Varsity players will get some time.

Will a week off next weekend be worth it? Looks like no matter what, West could use the time off, so all of this may well be a blessing in disquise.

I forgot my main point. :irked:

5) If this is anything other than a bad idea, other teams would be doing it. We all know that coaches are looking for an advantage, this does the opposite.

I don't disagree that it could serve some purpose. Just don't tell me that this as a smart move... (Not you Skunk, others)

The main problem is having your bye week in week 2...

Agreed, but we have to remember, this was originally not scheduled until next week. It was a scheduleing screw-up and not by design. Now that they are faced with either playing or not playing, what do you tell the boys? I'm sure they said play.

But this is where the coach has to look at things and say what is best for the team. I'm sure if Trosper thought that the opposition would have been anything other than an 0-6 team, this game would have been cancelled.

If Conner's JV teams starts the first half Saturday, woudl that make them ineligible for the JV game next week?

Agreed...:thumb:

Good luck Conner, I believe you will definitly need it.. If I was coach I would rotate and rotate if at all possible.. How good is Dayton-Belmont?

Sounds like a pretty bad idea to me. I hope no one gets hurt. I just remember how sore and tired I was on some Saturday mornings and playing another game productively would have been next to impossible. Good Luck:confused:

Yes, but for the seniors you only get x amount of games. I feel bad for the players missing out on one, b/c basically, they aren't going to see the field on Saturday. On the other hand, this gives the reserves a chance to play meaningful minutes. I don't see too too much of an issue. Now if it were 2 district games in a row, then he would be clinically insane.

Sounds like a lot to handle on the kids, all I can say is good luck to Conner in both games. :thumb:

Yikes! The boys will be tired Saturday night, but I think they can handle it. Good luck guys!

Last season, when Conner had possibly it's worst team in school history, they beat the inner-city school handily for their only win. I realize that was last year, but I do not think this Dayton-Belmont team has made any durastic changes judging from previous posts (0-6, 40pt. average loss). The JV team shold be able to handle this game and it will be a complete blow if the varsity gets in.

This should be something like another Conner v.s. Cooper.

I do not think this will affect Conner quite as much as everyone is thinking, due to such a weak opponent. Good Luck to the Cougars!! :ylsuper:
