This Cardinals fan loves nothing more than seeing the Cubs swept out of "their year"

Was there any doubt Soriano would swing at the first pitch in the seventh? The guy's wildly talented, but has to be the most undisciplined player at the plate in MLB.

Thought they would have a better showing than this. Should have expected less from the Cubbies.

I really don't care about the insults. Anyone can say 101 or 1908, Billy Goat, Bartman, Black Cat, doesn't matter to me cause at the end of the day, it's still my team for better or worse. I love the Cubs, have since I was 5 years old, and I won't stop now. I'm very disapointed in the way things ended this year, but it was still a good year. It's going to be a long off season, but...come April I'll be ready to go again and in March I'll be planning my first trip of the season to Wrigley. Isn't Man Ram a FA at the end of the season:D Lets go get him!

 

But, there is indeed always next year.

 

:thumb:I'm right with you, Rocket. I find all the insults mildly amusing because, quite frankly, I don't care enough about any other team to worry about them. The Cubs are mine, for better or worse.

 

As far as this season goes, it was a blast! I enjoyed it very much, from March until last night. As painful as it was, I will take getting swept out of the NLDS any day versus being out of it by the All-Star Break.

 

People were on Fukudome, but I think much of the blame can be laid on Soriano's head. When your lead-off cannot get on base in the postseason, then you are in bad shape. The entire series was eerily similar to the D'Backs series last year.

Really, can you truly claim to be a Dodgers fan or just a Cubs hater?

 

As a Cardinals fan, I went to school in the middle of Illinois (Bloomington), surrounded by Cubs fans.

 

I used to be a Cubs "hater"; now (the past 10-20 years) I'm just a Cubs "pity-er"....

Yea talk trash when you guys can get to the post season, heck even finish in 4th in the division for that matter:rolleyes:

Why is it that when UK fans bring up '96 and '98 they are living in the past and need to get into the 21st century, yet Reds fans can reference 1990 and before and it is perfectly acceptable? This is a legitimate observation on my part, not trying to be argumentative.

I think that's a fair question. But there is a difference. Reds fans long for the successful days of 1990 and the '70s, but don't blindly cling to expectations of that level of success and recognize the game has changed dramatically since then. The Big Red Machine had the greatest catcher and second baseman of all time, as well as the all-time hits leader, along with a surrounding cast of all-star caliber talent. No Reds fan I know expects that to happen again.

 

Many UK fans don't understand (or don't want to understand) that the college game has changed dramatically since '96/'98, and still hold those expectations. It's just not a reality to be able to amass that much talent on one roster any more.

Six division titles, four WS trips. Two WS titles. Pretty good track record.

The Braves won one less world series yet aren't put on the same pedestal. I don't think you can chastise Cubs fans for bringing up their division titles and no world series wins and do the same with the Big Red Machine. Thats the way to be. There is no reason to not stick with your team. I, along with my family are true Red Sox fans. My father lived in Maine his whole life and I was born there, so I grew up loving Boston teams, and every year until 2004 they choked. But for the Cubs, it has to be about time for them to break the curse. They are too good not to turn it around. But, I am now hoping to see Bo Sox vs. Dodgers. I just want to see what kind of ovation Manny gets lol.

:thumb: Actually the entire Cubs roster is filled with player that have, to paraphrase Crash Davis: "Million dollar talent and five cent heads." They just melted under pressure.

The Cubs have erased the lovable loser lable, they are a good team and should be for years to come, they just have to get over the hump. It is comical for the Reds and Cardinal fans to root against the Cubs cause they couldn't get it done themselves. I've never rooted against any team unless it would help my team. Cards and Reds were out of it, so root for a team within your division.
