Just doing what I can to close the gap between pro-McCain threads and pro-Obama threads. :D

FWIW, and I hate to threadjack, but the article discusses how, while all politicians are liars, McCain has set the bar higher for himself by branding himself as the "Straight-Talk Express." I doubt we will see an article by Richard Cohen that says how, while all politicians accept lobby money, Obama set the bar higher for himself, and then selected Joe Biden as his VP.

McCain's selection of Palin as his running mate may be the determining factor in my voting Democrat for the first time. I just don't believe she has the experience or knowledge on the national scale to hold such a high position. He chose her knowing that she is not prepared, which is totally irresponsible in my judgment.

She is running as vice-president. You would vote for a man for PRESIDENT who has been a senator since January 4, 2005? And then has been running for president the last 2 years? Where is his experience? At least she has been a mayor (running a city) and a governor (running a state).

And what has Obama accomplished? He has been campaigning for president since coming to the senate a few years ago and still has no real accomplishments.

McCain and Biden have worlds of experience, like them or not. But I can't find anything that Obama has actually done. It is not just the experience, but what you do with the opportunities you have. So far, Obama hasn't accomplished anything except being a history making candidate. While Palin has only been governor a short time, she at least has accomplished something. Being a campaigner is one thing, being a leader is another. IMHO, Obama is the only candidate who hasn't proven that he can lead thru actions. McCain, Biden and Palin have been proven leaders for the time they have had.

Obama hasn't accomplished anything. If you are voting on experience, the obvious choice is McCain.

Palin has been a small-town mayor and a governor for less than two years. Obama has been a state legislator and a United States Senator since January 2005 ... in both cases, I suspect, representing many more people as an elected official than Palin.

I'm not disparaging Palin's accomplishments by any means. I just don't understand how that makes her more accomplished than Obama.

That's it, bottom line.

UKPat, welcome to P&R, and every thread you start getting threadjacked ASAP. This one has actually been threadjacked twice (once by me :D), in two different directions.

Sorry, but i'm not buying that logic. I think your mind was made up a long time ago.

It does not. Both Obama and Palin have very little experience. You can debate the merits of which one has more (or less) all day long. But in short, neither have done all that much.

I am not saying that should eliminate them from contention, just stating a fact. I have never understood why you have to have 25+ years of experience in Washington or be a Foreign Diplomat, etc. to run our country. We have had more than our fair share of ignorance attain that position with years of experience.
