Is that even an accurate statement? First of all, where is the completely untrue allegations. Second of all, how is McCain's campaign "right-wing"?

If Obama had received the same kind of scrutiny the first two weeks of his candidacy for president as Palin has received since her nomination, he would have been an early campaign casualty.

 

 

What a ridiculous comparison. Surely you didn't think this statement through. Obama didn't begin his candidacy 9 weeks before the general election, as the hastily-picked running mate of a major party candidate. Obama has been a major candidate for the Democratic nomination for nearly a year. More than enough time for his background to be thoroughly exhumed and examined by Republican operatives. Before Aug 31 Palin was an unknown, a national nobody, and in one swift stroke 72 year old cancer survivor John McCain made her his backup to the most powerful position in the world. Darn right she deserves intense scrutiny.

If you think a so-called journalist who is on record as saying he had a tingle running up his leg after listening to Obama speak, a man who was almost moved to tears during Obama's acceptance speech, is not a partisan Democrat, then all I have to say is, "'Nuff said." :lol:

Journalists are trained and paid to be objective in their reporting and separate their personal views from their professional conduct. If you feel it's not being done, you're insulting their professional ethics.

I am not globally insutlng journalists, just the large number who evidently slept through their professional ethics classes or just skipped the class altogether. My two favorite reporters of all time are Tim Russert and Sam Donaldson. They took/take professional ethics seriously.

McCain's campaign has absolutely been just making stuff up these past few weeks. Geez, even Karl Rove has said that McCain has gone too far. Consider:

 

• John McCain himself completely mischaracterized Obama's contextual "lipstick on a pig" comment and claimed it was made in direct reference to Sarah Palin.
  
• The McCain campaign ran ads completely misrepresenting a piece of legislation Obama voted for while in the Illinois legislature to help children avoid sexual predators, explicitly stating that Obama favors "comprehensive sex education for kindergartners".
  
• The McCain campaign continues to claim (falsely) that Obama will raise taxes on the middle class when, in fact, Obama's tax policy would result in a lower tax burden for middle class families than McCain's would.
  
• The McCain campaign ran an ad at the end of July (falsely) claiming that Barack Obama did not visit wounded soldiers in Landstuhl, Germany because the Pentagon would not allow cameras during the visit.

Matthews has talked time and time again about his love of politics and history and the historic nature of this election. I saw the "leg" comment live, and I believe Matthews was referring to the historical context of Obama's ascension to the Democratic nomination.

 

Of course, you choose to interpret it differently, given your obvious bias.

Frankly, I don't know that you or anyone else on this board is fully qualified to discuss how a journalist's beliefs may affect his reporting. That has to come from knowing the person, I would suspect.
