I was in attendance last night and thought that the antics on the sideline were a little overboard irregardless if it is CovCath or not. Now on to the game. This group continues to amaze me with their ability to score in the crunch. Carter New throws a pretty nice ball, but the routes run by the receivers are a little suspect and they do not come back to the ball when he is in trouble. O-line did okay considering that CovCath was blitzing every play in an attempt to gap the young Birds. The 95 yard touchdown should have never happened if the DB's do their job. Now on to play the Indians next week in Latonia.

 

To insinuate that the inefficiency of the Highlands passing game last night or for that matter last week is some how do to the receivers not running their routes appropriately or not coming back for balls is a bit reaching. I watched both Sheehan and Merrill run their routes last night. Both did a pretty good job.

Poor wording on my part regarding the routes. What I meant was the routes being run are suspect in my opinion, namely never attempting a pass in the middle or running any sort of crossing routes. All passes were either outs to the sidelines or streaks down the sidelines. Same issues I have with the JV and Varsity when it comes to throwing the football. Much easier to defend passes to the sidelines as opposed to something in the middle of the field.

I think he is talking about when the receiver is in his route and QB gets in trouble and needs to make a quick decision when running for his life. Not many receivers in that program truly know how to break off a route to come back to the ball. Maybe the coaches teach the kids to do it, but it just doesn't happen. Not every QB that goes through the program have arms like Jared Lorenzen or MCA!!!!:lol:

And you know that Dale was/is usually on the sidelines of home games. Obviously Charlie doesn't have a problem with Dale helping him out coaching or else he wouldn't have stayed around coaching so long. If he doesn't mind the help, why should you?

Charlie Barr has been around for over 30 years. I believe my brother-in-law was telling me he came there in 1975 or 1977. He has to be the winningest coach in Highlands history. He is pretty laid back and calm most of the time. If Dale wants to come in and be a personal cheerleader for the guys, let him. I was worried however when a few times all I could hear was Dale screaming and jumping up and down on the sidelines. At one point I thought he was going to have a stroke! I rarely see him get this pumped up at the Varsity games but I guess that's because I am distracted by Coach Weinrich's intensity.

 

Good win Birds. Look forward to the next one. BTW, did anyone notice that the PA-system was very loud? Not complaining, it was nice to actually hear everything the announcer was saying for a change.

Personally I would hate it too if I were coach Barr. However, I am not and apparently he doesn't mind the extra help whereas some may view it as stepping on toes. I think he is breeding winning. If you stress winning at the freshmen level and get involved personally, it becomes more of an audition for the young men on that frosh team. Now if Dale was coming in and completely taking over, that would be a shame. I don't think that's the case but I'm not on the sideline.

After the "fake FG fiasco" against NCC maybe the sidelines needed a little help. (LOLOLOLOLOLOL)

Coaches getting involved in the game is why HHS wins championships. What freshman player wouldn't want their future head coach on the sideline with them, pumping them up. The players appreciate first hand what Coach Mueller does for them at the freshman level. He gets no extra pay for being on the sidelines. He does it because he loves the game and the kids he coaches. It is a great positive, the varsity head football coach giving you a talk at halftime. Not only was Coach Mueller there, but so was the majority of the varsity coaching staff and a number of the varsity players. Go Birds!

I can't say he's been on the sidelines for EVERY home game, but he has for most of the home games. Sure Charlie has a choice. Heck, he gets paid peanuts for the hours of work he has to put in. If Dale being on the sidelined bothered him, he just wouldn't coach or he'd coach somewhere else. Its not like he has to or anything. And I truly believe that if Charlie said it bothered him in the slightest, Dale wouldn't do it. But Charlie knows that Dale can be helpful to winning the games; so he's more than happy for the help. An "injustice"? Heck you don't even know if Charlie minds and you are saying its an injustice. Jack, you're up to it again this year. Just sit back and enjoy the Birds winning. I know you have opinions: don't we all. But a wise man once said: if you keep quiet, one may wonder if you are a fool; open your mouth and you might confirm it.
