Sounds like these 2 frosh teams are about even like last year when HHS won in OT. Should be some great varsity games in the upcoming years.

CovCath was winning 14-7 at he half with one first down...CovCath scores on an interception of a pitch and a 95 yard pass play in the first half. Jake True has to be a very tired young man. He must of carried the ball 30 times tonight and was all over the field playing linebacker.The only thing that worries me with the young birds is their defensive secondary.If they tighten that up the baby birds could be hard to beat...:thumb:

 

CovCath had some very nice plays on O & D tonite. Birds seemed to pick it up when they needed to. True "Blue" is a beast. On that 70+ screen he scored on, there was no blocking...he ran over and through alot of tired CC tacklers (much like NCC's the week before.) ...I lied, there was one very nice peel back block close to the goal line. Second game of frosh year...secondary looks like a young frosh secondary typically looks...iffy! #6 got caught "in-between" and on the wrong shoulder. Very correctable! I dare say he'll see film, get instruction, and won't make that same mistake again. (BTW, that was a VERY nice "pitch and catch" by the CC duo!) Big #41 at safety is rangy and has nice hands! He's got to keep in mind that he is "last man"! DGBD!!!!!!(Don't Get Beat Deep). I like a tall safety! O-Line got better, but needs more consistency (typical frosh). They have to have the desire to dominate EVERY play...not just when the ball is coming over them! QB is now called "Cardiac" New after leading 2 come from behind victories over big time competition! (You're going to give Grandpa Shields a stroke! LOL!!) A great freshman contest that could have gone either way...check back in 3 years!!

Ask Ozzie Sheehan if there was no blocking on this play and I am sure he will tell you different. In fact from my angle in the South endzone it looked like he had the guy on roller skates and at the last minute it almost looked like he took him to the ground. But yes, True was rumbling down the field in TRUE fashion and tacklers were bouncing off of him.

 

Secondary will get better with instruction and technique. Staying deep is always the most important thing when you are in 3 deep coverage. I liked the way Towles goes and gets the ball. Another thing those DB's will get better at is breaking on the ball when it is thrown and not waiting for it to get halfway to the receiver. A couple times if the DB would have done this they could have stepped right in front and picked a couple off. Secondary is a very tough position to play there is no doubt about it.

 

Very nice game by the Birds and they should be proud of their efforts.

...I retract my statement! (LOL). As you know, no one person can succeed on a football field. It takes all 11! And BLOCKING is the most important cog of any offensive team! I'm sure the "Wizard of Oz" Sheehan was "nose in the numbers" all night long!

HHS freshman fans. Things are indeed looking good. You guys are correct on the blocking by Ozzy Sheehan last night. He took the DB out of the play on the screen to True and also on the big run, the last score to Quinlen. Miller also made block after block on runs. This "team" is good, the 2nd game of their short careers against a real good CCH team and they came up to the task. The HHS backs are dominating, the revamped O line since the last game is wicked. Talking about blocking, Isles was downfield hammering CCH guys play after play.Trapp handled his new position like a man, some real good blocks to open big holes. My understanding is that in the HHS locker room after the game there were some high fives about great runs and great blocks. We have been living on the run, once our passing game comes around which it will, things will be even better. Lets also give our kicking team a high five, Towles and New.

I was in attendance last night and thought that the antics on the sideline were a little overboard irregardless if it is CovCath or not. Now on to the game. This group continues to amaze me with their ability to score in the crunch. Carter New throws a pretty nice ball, but the routes run by the receivers are a little suspect and they do not come back to the ball when he is in trouble. O-line did okay considering that CovCath was blitzing every play in an attempt to gap the young Birds. The 95 yard touchdown should have never happened if the DB's do their job. Now on to play the Indians next week in Latonia.

They needed a wake up call. They saw that Coach Mueller never wants to lose to Cov Cath at any level. Jake True you are going to be stud at the varsity level.

How big is Jake True this year? I saw him play last year with the Spartans, and he was a man amongst boys then. However, he was bigger than almost all the linemen too.

Couldn't agree with you more Birddad! Coach Mueller put a fire under the birds and they responded. What we need is the HHS fans to be more like coach, a few antics in the stands, maybe stand up and cheer on the team. Least we forget, these are 14 year old young men that practice hard 3-4 hours a day, wanting to succeed, wanting to represent their team, the tradition of HHS football. It irritates me, that fans on this site after a big win, criticize there own players and coaches. The O line was not okay, they dominated. The receivers aren't running suspect routes, they are running the deep routes that are called. Why, maybe the coaching staff wanted to keep the middle open for the run. I don't know for sure, but there has to be a reason we haven't ran any slants, quick passes, and very few routes to the middle line, yet.

Who is the coach of the team? Is Dale on the sidelines for every game? I have no problem with him talking to the boys before the game, but let the coaches coach. After all, Charlie Barr has had quite a bit of success over the last 25 years.

Kids that are 14 years of age should be able to get themselves pumped up for a game against a bitter rival. They practice 3 to 4 hours a day? Please!!!!! No criticisms here, just facts. I also would not say the line dominated when the score was 21-14 CovCath entering the 4th quarter. Yes they made a nice drive at the end to win the game. Receiver routes are not only horrible at the frosh level, but at the JV and Varsity levels as well. What are the reasons there are no routes run anywhere but to the sidelines?
