Plus you play the Colerains of the world. Not many Kentucky teams dare do that. I admire that, personally.

I -think- he's referring to the faux the CovCath radio announcer made 2 yrs. ago in his show once it became known CC would play Central where he referred to the game being in "Johnsonville".

 

Some folks put up "X miles to NOWHERE" (meaning...there is no Johnsonville) signs to welcome the CovCath bunch coming up the Parkway. Heck, there were "Welcome to Johnsonville" signs put up at the Paintsville city limits, too. I think a couple of the culprits were members here at the time... :lol:

 

Though it was all done in fun, possibly Ryan may have taken it out of context and applied it to his "Johnson Central gets no respect" thesis.

I'm pretty sure that was a reference to the "Johnsonville" reference from the Covington Catholic internet radio announcers. They didn't know where Johnson Central was. They eventually figured it out. They turned out to be pretty nice people, actually. And our game against CovCath turned out to be probably the most awesome spectacle in high school football football I've ever been a part of. In fact, when I got to announce that we were leading CovCath at the half in the state semifinal game, I got chills. Literally, chills. If Blake Johnson could've not been injured that game, I think we would've gone deep into the fourth quarter with the NKY folk, because they couldn't stop him carrying the football. What a great night that was for Central football. I hope there's another night like that in our future.

There are plenty of us on here. Plenty. Most of us who've been around a while (and I was on Bluegrass Preps back in 2000 for our FIRST undefeated season, I remember very well arguing with the Pikeville fans about which team was better that year) don't come on here waving the black and gold flag daily. Some of our younger fans may not remember, but most of the 1990s we did NOT average 10 wins a year; in fact, when I was in high school, we won nine games in four years. Our "tradition" is based on about eight or nine decent seasons out of over thirty years as a football playing institution, and we still haven't played in a state final yet. Our mountain neighbors in Breathitt and Belfry have multiple rings, so we've got a way to go to even get to that level (although I admit, if we played in the old 2A or 3A now, we might have one or two of those also). To expect fans of teams like Highlands with 18 state championships to talk about us and respect us is absurd until we do something that commands their respect. I am very proud of what Coach Matney and the team and boosters and fans have accomplished in the last four years, and it's good to see other people being proud as well. But we need a sense of perspective: there are teams better than us right now, and they've been better for decades, and they will continue to be better until we pull ourselves up to their level on a consistent basis. To sum it up, I don't think other teams hate us, I just don't think they're going to notice us until we consistently make statements (on the field, not on the internet) that make them take notice of us.

Glad you're here, Ryan. This is a unique place to learn a lot about KY football, from all corners of the state.

 

For instance, there are several public schools who have at least averaged 10 wins per season over the last 4 years.

 

Russell has won as many games as any program in the state during that span, 51. Belfry and Bowling Green have each won 50 and Beechwood and Bell Co have won 44. Ft Campbell has 43, Male 50 and Lou. Central has 39, just to name a few.

 

Johnson Central is right up there with 38

Where are all the Paintsville fans? I know they could have some negative comments on JC.

I am a fan of the Eagles as long as they are not playing Belfry.

 

There are more Eagle fans on here than you may think, in fact at one point not too long ago I'd say there were more JCHS fans on here than any other school.

 

Where'd they all go then? At least, that's what Ryan has been wondering. I agree that I've noticed a lot less chatter from their fans the past few months.

No one likes a winner. Ever hear a team get booed who was going to get bet by everyone. Everyone claps for them, but bring in a winner and it is boo's.

Golfer Dad you are exactly right. Russell is the best team in the surrounding area and The Daily Independent hardly ever covers them. It sounds like that not only does Johnson Central have a football team, they also have a great school system. If you will notice schools who do well academically also do well athletically.

You are exactly right and I have been trying to get people in Mccreary County to understand that for years. I did the research and schools that are at the top of the educational ladder always have sound, successfull athletic programs. 20 years ago Whitley Co was near the bottom in both education and athletics. Lonnie Anderson took over as superintendent and started pooring money into their athletic programs which generated school and community pride which led to better athetic programs and in return led to higher education numbers. If you think that I am blowing smoke I challenge you to find a school system who has great athletic programs acrossed the board that dosen't have a top notch academic program as well. I can tell you now that you will be hard pressed to find one. Johnson Central is a fine example of academics and athletics going hand in hand! I wish our school system would figure it out!

It seems everyone hates JC. May be the reason of them coming out of nowhere? They are no longer a district doormat? They have averaged 10 wins a season over the past 4 years? I would like to see any other public school (except for Highlands of course) to even match those stats.

 

From the Nothern Ky perspective: I was down there for the 2006 Playoff Game. I thought the team played well and the fans were great too. Very nice people. You may find a little lack of respect for JC. I do think you will find that us Northerners have a high opinion of our programs, so we may come off a little smug up here. But lets face it, 10 wins in Northern KY is tougher than in the southeastern part of the state. So, take it for what it is worth. I don't think people hate JC, but maybe we don't give them the respect you think they deserve. It's all subjective, but there is no ill will...just nothing to get to excited about compared to football in NKY.

I just wanted to say: how's it going JOHNNY? Tell everyone I said howdy and can't wait to see them again and remember, it's getting closer to deer season everyday. Oh, and to make sure this post goes along with the thread: I don't think there is anything wrong with JC I kinda like the folks there and my daughter says she likes them too!:thumb:
