Not to start up another fight on the 3A-5A situation but how does this make any sense 187 mile one way trip for a district game. Surely there is a better way to keep these districts closer for games. Harlan Co fans, just as Fleming fans last year will only be a fraction of fans that would normally go to a high school football game.

 

The first two road games didn't affect the fan base for Harlan Co. The following for this team has been outstanding. They were at least 30-40 people gathered in the parking lot eating and playing games before 5 bells last week at Lynn Camp. The action broke out again after the game and some didn't leave till really late. I am interested in seeing just how many do go North this saturday.

Form what I am hearing, we should have a decent following. Somebody better be getting directions or they'll be Black Bears wondering all over the country side!!! We need to caravan down there together. :walk:

That's it; I can't hold my tongue (or fingers in this case) any longer. I have seen numerous references in different threads about how Cumberland especially and Evarts both had good teams last year and how Cawood did not. I went to every Cawood game last year. They had a talented bunch of young men on the team (and good boys to boot). This response to Leonidas' comment is in no way meant to put down Evarts or Cumberland, as I am beginning to know and love these boys just as I do the boys who are from Cawood. This is just to stick up for the former Cawood players a little bit.

 

The "powers that be" last year decided to play one of the best running backs in the mountains at QB last year - that would be T.J. Green. Everyone, and I mean EVERYONE, who knew anything about anything from Cawood thought from the git-go that it was not a very bright thing to do. That's all I heard is how crazy it was to play him at QB. The first time and I mean very first time Green was played at running back, where his god-given talent lies, Cawood beat Cumberland. We were all excited to see what would happen that Friday. The fans couldn't wait and the kids were excited at school...the football players and the student body. I think Cawood's season would have been a whole other story last year for Cawood if Green had been allowed to do what he does best, and that is run the football. Like I said this is not to offend anyone; it's just to get this topic off my chest.

Fleming County petitioned the KHSAA to change districts last year, and it's a "2-year deal". I believe that they are slated to return to the district with Russell, Mason County, etc. in 2009.

Fleming County was young last year, they return 7 on offense and 8 on defense from last year.

I don't think this team can be that big and fast, players sizes get adjusted anyway. If they are that big they will have to deal with our speed.

They are that big, I saw them in person this year playing in the Recreation Bowl. Those were the sizes listed in the program and I know those can sometimes get exagerated but they looked to hold up to me.

Not for sure but I think I remember hearing that Fleming was in this district because they (KHSAA) knew Cawood would be breaking it up this year. Not sure how that matters but I am pretty sure something was done because they knew Cawood would be consolidated.

Were they fast? I think we will be alright we have a good combination of both.

 

They are definatley bigger than we are, but we are faster overall. Their big guys aren't that slow but they don't run like Lance either. Their FB is not fast at all but he is a bulldozer. QB moves pretty good for a big guy but he isn't mobile like Charlie Banks either.
