Fleming County was young last year, they return 7 on offense and 8 on defense from last year.

 

The Black Bears still have most of the players from Cawood that beat this team last year plus the talent from Cumberland and Evarts. This is consolidation baby, The Black Bears are a different team also. They may not have a year together under their belt but they do have two impressive showings in the first two games they have played. Go Bears

Fleming County petitioned the KHSAA to change districts last year, and it's a "2-year deal". I believe that they are slated to return to the district with Russell, Mason County, etc. in 2009.

Harlan will probably win, but then why shoudn't a 5A school win a 3A district game?

Let's not make this a class warfare thing again.

 

I can name numerous schools that whipped up on higher classed schools every week, there are more than you know.

 

Just this past week a huge one was little Middlesboro over the largest school in the state with over 2,200 kids dominated Dunbar.

The class topic is dead weight and shouldn't be used as an excuse.

Exactly 3W, Think about it like this, Harlan Co. may dress 90 players, but lets be honest with ourselves here, How many of the 90 kids will see significant playing time?

 

I don't buy the 5A school playing 3A ball, Don't use that as an excuse....It's garbage, Put the shoe on the other foot.. :argue:

Fleming asked to move from District 7 to District 6 because, according to the KHSAA responses, "primarily because they already schedule Breathitt, Estill and Powell."

 

I think Magoffin was in District 6 in the original plan.

I don't think anyone can get something over on HDE, Man knows his stuff.

Why did they petition to stay in 3A for a year instead of moving on up to the 5A district they were supposed to play in this year? Just curious....

It's doubtful Clay, Perry, North and Whitley could have worked them into their schedule.

I'm not saying that. I just remember that when the District alignment origionally came out for the 2007 & 2008 seasons I remember there being a place reserved in a 5A district for Harlan Co. to play in once the three schools consolidated (I think it may have been with Clay, Letcher Central, North Laurel, Perry Central, & Whitley) becasue the consolidation plan was already in motion prior to the 2007 season. I was just curious as to why that didn't materialize. I think the decision was made sometime last winter or spring that they would play in Cawood's origional 3A spot. I was wondering how and why that happened.

Harlan County was placed in 6A in the original plan and then dropped all together because district officials and some others argued they wouldn't have 6A numbers when the school opened. They were never listed as 5A in the current plan. They were listed as 5A in the plan for 2009 and 2010.
