Covington Catholic 38 Newport Central Catholic 34

I would love to see the numbers from the second half. NCC definitely did not abandon the run like some are saying.

The passes that were incomplete in the 2nd half they had guys WIDE open and they were either underthrown or the receiever had no idea what side to look for the ball on.

Going into the second half last night, CovCath had been outscored 117 - 6 in the prevous six quarters.

NCC should have won by 2-3 touchdowns, but you have to hand it to the CC kids, they came up with some of the best cluch plays you'll ever see.

From the Cincy Enquirer:

Covington Catholic 38, Newport Central Catholic 34

With 32.1 seconds on the clock and the game on the line, Covington Catholic quarterback Zach Isler looked for an open receiver.

He found Michael Robinson.

The junior reeled in Isler’s 6-yard pass in the end zone, Brent Bessler iced the PAT, and CovCath’s improbable comeback was complete.

Will agree with the WR's being wide open and the WR's not knowing where to look for the ball, but....NCC did at least in the third quarter abandon their running game and the many who I spoke to during and after the game agreed. In fact other than the Micheal Robinson catch, that was the biggest comment I heard! Why did NCC quit running the ball!

Good luck Breds,

I agree NewCath stopped running after the opening drive of the second half. CovCath forced a put and NewCath decided to try a different route to the end zone. They finally went back to it in the fourth. However, w/ the way Isler was throwing it and Robinson and Van Sant were catching it, why didn't CovCath stay in the spread no huddle??? NewCath had quite a few skill players going both ways.

That too was a puzzling, as NCC seemed totally confused by the change in style from the CovCath offense! When CovCath "O" changed it's offense and opened it up, you could literally see the "O" come alive in that last minute or so of the first half. It was like the chains were removed and the beast was finally allowed to flex it's muscles and breath! The difference was indeed night and day!

I want to thank the young men and coaching staff from both NC and CCH for one of the best hard fought, exciting football games I've EVER seen. The momentum swings, big play after big play, I think everyone got their $5 worth.

To the kids from CovCath, your comebacks were a tribute to the fine young men I'm sure you all are. Best of luck the rest of the year.

To my son and the rest of the Breds- There were no losers in that football game, you just ran out of time. When the final play was over I saw players from both teams on the field exhausted. The sun came up today and you got Ryle Saturday night. I am proud of every single one of you.

:ylsuper:Outstanding post above Big Blue.:ylsuper:

It really was a shame that one team won because the other team surely didn't lose!

Robinson is my next door neighbor Mike Grimes grandson (also grandfather of last year's star forward) . If anyone has a picture of him "laying out" for the catch, I would like to surprise him with an enlarged photo. I will do what is necessary to obtain such a photo.

Is Mike the brother of legendary student trainer JRob?

I wish I could see "the catch" again. I hope ICN 6 has the sports reporters playing all week.

They did and I saw it on the replay show after I got home from the game! I think Dan Weber said they might have as much as seven minutes of high lites clips of this game on their Tuesday (I think) night show!

CovCath could have throw to #9 every single play and won by 20.

How he didn't win "KR Sports POTG" is beyond me. He single handedly dominated the 2nd half.

I agree NCC's pass D was a complete joke.

I have never seen a receiver throw the ball to himself or a quarterback able to throw to a receiver without an offensive line blocking. It takes a team to execute. This is not meant to take away from any receiver, I just don't think that anyone can single handedly win a game or dominate. TEAMs win.

Yes he is.
