Very true. Let me preface the following statement with the fact that the next offensive game plan I implement will be my first.

 

However, you have to occasionally stretch the field. When you consistently throw the out pass or the one step drop and get in a pattern of doing so, the LOS area is going to get crowded. Its not like Nate was worried about his qb in his first varsity start. He threw the ball the first two plays of the game from his own 13.

 

As I said, I saw glimpses of what their offense can look like in the 2nd half. Tough night and tough circumstances to break in a new qb, a new line, and a new O.

Oh and yes, I cant believe I did all that typing and didnt mention Collinsworth. He just blew down the sideline on that punt return. When he wants to get somewhere he is going to get there. He is such a nice talent to have on the field especially on defense as he will hit you also. I thought they could have gotten the ball into his hands offensively a little more with some end arounds or reverses.

 

Next week will definitely be a monumental task.

This could be the worst offensive line HHS has had in 10yrs...The o-line needs to do alot of work before next week or the Birds could have negative yardage against Colerain..I hope Dale can pull a rabbit out of his hat..I just don't see it though...:eek::eek::eek:

 

Kind of early to make that claim. They have what, 4 new starters? Give them a little time to mesh. Offensive line, particularly at HHS, is a tough area to pull together and get playing as a unit.

You nailed it there... the line just didn't look good. I do believe they have some young guys on it... Colerain next week.... not good.

How about the lights on one side of the field going out tonight? That was eery and Im sure made it difficult on punt / kickoff returns in the Northeast part of the field.

I agree. It's awfully early in the game to be going into desperation mode. They'll get it together.

 

Next week will be a huge challenge. They may not win, and they may get beat soundly. But they will be better for having fought the battle. The finest steel is forged in the hottest of fires.

 

I'm confidant that our Birds will get better each week and will be in playoff form when the time comes. They didn't quit when they faced adversity last year--remember the Lou. Central game?--and they won't let it beat them this year. :thumb:

I just hope nobody gets hurt next week. I remember the Colerain game a few years back and I am sure Chad Hudepohl still hears the ice cream truck coming while in college.

FWIW, Colerain's D-line may be the worst we've had in 10 years so...

Hard-hitting game. Both D's played very well. Ryle impressed me with their quickness and toughness, just need to figure out the offensive line play. Ryle will win a lot of FB games this year as they get some key starters back and make adjustments on offense. Birds will win 5A state - Josh Conner is a stud. Collingsworth is excellent. Ryle's Conner Hempel played very well for a first-year soph starter in run-for-life mode. Ryle had about 175 yards of offense and the Birds had about 280. Take away the 4 big plays (3 by Birds and 1 by Ryle) it was probably 125 yards Ryle and 150 Birds. First downs were about 10 each. I think the Birds ended up with 2 more first downs. Good opener that will help both teams.

As usual the Birds Def was stingy. Martin, Rosie, Roller. and #4 was outstanding, quick, aggressive and physical. Not sure who #4 was but he had some nice aggressive plays.

# 4 is Travis "Alfie" Alford...JR...will only get better as the year goes on!!
