I would also expect to hear this in ads for Obama. It seems maybe the Governor agrees with him on taxing big oil profits - at least for Alaska.

Now I'm confused. I see the above. They raised taxes on the oil industry which many would equate to a windfall tax but in her press release praising Obama's plan she questioned the idea of windfall taxes.

Talk about being inexperienced. She definately is the least experienced of all the candidates. Good ploy by McCain to get the female vote.

 

She has served as a Govenor.....that is moe "Executive" experience that Obama or Biden combined. A Senator is not an "Executive" office I don't believe.

I love the choice, she should connect with the common man, woman and family like Obama never could in his "elite" world. She believes in family and country and the values this country was founded on. Putting it in another way..........a lot of what she stands for is what the Democratic party used to be about but no more. The common, working man, Pro life, Pro gun, Pro military (Military mom), has already intoduced and put in motion I believe for an Alaskan pipe line to pipe natural gas in to help with our country dependance on foriegn oil and she imo supports drilling Alaska for oil so she has done more along those lines already than Obama has.

 

I think that McCain really "hit the bullseye" /"knocked it out of the park" with this choice. Just thinking, with this pick imo he may draw a lot of women voters from the Democratic side that watched their party and their main stream media shoot down a woman for their ticket.

I guess the message of "Change" for campaign has shifted, uh?:lol:

I seriously doubt I'll slide away from Obama, but I really like this pick for the Republicans. Very smart move, IMO, for McCain.

It will be interesting to see how this plays out. The big unknown in my opinion, is how well Palin will be able to convince undecided female voters to vote for McCain. Palin is pretty far right in many of her social views, so I can't imagine a lot of Clinton supporters would vote for her just because she's a woman. But there might be a mobilizing effect for right-leaning women. On the positive side for Obama, Palin's selection pretty much takes away the experience argument from the GOP arsenal. McCain is no spring chicken--you would think that they would be cognizant of that fact in their VP selection. It also allows the Democrats to wail away on the lack of economics experience on the Republican ticket, since they have soundbites of McCain saying he is basically deficient in that area and since Palin has no appreciable economics background. Economic reports will likely range from tepid to downright awful all the way through the election, giving Obama's campaign an opportunity to hit the topic at regular intervals.

I’ve said it before and I’ll resurface it here: a conservative will not win this election. McCain was the only chance Republicans had. He had a record of independence from partisanship and had a proclivity to say unpopular things if they were true. Over the last few weeks he’s moved away from that and attempted to fit into the standard Republican mold. A pick of someone as conservative as Palin is only going to drive moderates and undecideds out of the booth or to Obama.

 

McCain’s selection of Palin not only acknowledges Obama’s message of change, thus giving it credence, it advocates it.

 

This is not going to drive women to vote for McCain. First, it’s obvious pandering, most people will see through it. Second, if a person was considering a vote for Hilary and now considers voting for McCain because of Palin they are supremely delusional or do not understand Hilary Clinton’s stances on issues. I would imagine this constitutes a very, very small group of people.

 

The timing is way off for a pick like this. Maybe, earlier this summer when Clinton was silent on Obama and the specter of angry women hung over the Democrats, Palin could have moved some votes and put Clinton on the defensive. Instead, Clinton rode the coat tails of drama all the way to the convention then, it what most consider an excellent speech, mended wounds and sent the party off to vote for Obama. After the convention, angry Clinton supporters have been severely subdued.

 

Her inexperience is a factor and will not be negated by Obama’s, especially considering McCain’s age. Despite having more “executive” experience, Palin is overall less experienced than Obama and doesn’t have quite the resume (Harvard Law). She also has, remarkably, less foreign policy experience than Obama - though I think that is an area where McCain did not necessarily need strong support. However, Biden will certainly have a massive advantage in that regard heading into the debates.

 

I’ve always liked John McCain, and I don’t have anything against Sarah Palin, but this is not a good pick.

No way. And it's a matter of policies and politics. If it were just about supporting their own, Alan Keyes would squeek out just a bit more support, or Mondale/Ferraro may have been a tad more competitive.

So everyone that says this is a great pick has no problem with this woman being a heart attack away from being president.
