It will be interesting to see how this plays out. The big unknown in my opinion, is how well Palin will be able to convince undecided female voters to vote for McCain. Palin is pretty far right in many of her social views, so I can't imagine a lot of Clinton supporters would vote for her just because she's a woman. But there might be a mobilizing effect for right-leaning women. On the positive side for Obama, Palin's selection pretty much takes away the experience argument from the GOP arsenal. McCain is no spring chicken--you would think that they would be cognizant of that fact in their VP selection. It also allows the Democrats to wail away on the lack of economics experience on the Republican ticket, since they have soundbites of McCain saying he is basically deficient in that area and since Palin has no appreciable economics background. Economic reports will likely range from tepid to downright awful all the way through the election, giving Obama's campaign an opportunity to hit the topic at regular intervals.

On the surface, this is a brilliant choice for McCain in this election.

I have to agree with Wolf Blitzer, it also now will increase the interest in the Republican Convention next week as people now want to know more about Palin.

Well this certainly adds drama to not only the convention next week but the election as well.

 

On one hand, she comes across very well which can't be discounted. She certainly will shore up the conservative base being a lifetime NRA member and being pro-life. This will also cause Obama to keep Hillary out front since this is an obvious ploy to get "her voters." I bet there are many of them that will struggle. They're unhappy for Hillary but they can't imagine voting for McCain.

 

The energy issue is certainly going to be interesting as there seems to be a conflict between her views and Sen. McCain's.

I've stated on here , as have many hard-core Republicans, that the windfall tax is not the way to go nor is the rebate the way to go. It appears that the Governor disagrees with her potential future boss.

There are a couple of things that are catching people's attention.

 

1. Change is now part of the Republican strategy.

 

2. Experience at the top of the ticket no longer seems to the #1 issue.

 

I'm not sure how much the VP choice influences my decision but this is certainly a positive for someone like me who is not as far right as many on here.
