McCain Chooses Palin As Veep

Featured Replies

Actually I never said I liked anything about him. I think you misread my post. I just said I made more money those years. He and Bush are both corrupt, just in different ways. You're either morally bankrupt or you're not. I don't think we should rank whose level of corruption was worse.

Well said. Thank you.:thumb:

I remain baffled. Palin is a gamble at best and she blows the election wide-open for Obama at worst. He may win for fun.

So, the more I learn about Ms. Palin, the more it makes my decision making process more difficult.

By all accounts by the uber-conservatives of BGP, one of the biggest drawbacks to Obama winning the election is his relative inexperience in foreign policy. And, maybe tied with that, his relative position as a poltical novice in DC. Palin fits both of those descriptions.

On the other hand, one of the appealing things about Obama to me, is that he's not a long-term member of the "establishment". But, the same can be said about Palin.

A plus for Palin, she seems (from what I've been able to find on her) staunchly committed to ethics in politics. I like that.

She has the "everyday American" factor going for her, which even though Obama is trying to convince us that he understands the plight of the everyday American, he's got a pretty cushy life right now. That's perfectly fine with me, as he's earned it, and he did grow up in less-than andvantaged circumstances.

So, if I do a chart of pros and cons, I find myself comparing Palin to Obama and McCain to Biden....an X (which totally freaks me out.).

Although I agree Palin has a lot going for her in her charm, her toughness, it's only been displayed in Alaska. I have to ask myself what would happen when she's in Washington, and the "good ol boys" there are much nastier and have far more powerful friends than she's faced in the past?

I would hope that she's able to stick to her convictions. But, I keep trying to temper my hope of that with the realistic knowledge that power corrupts, and absolute power corrupts absolutely.

What a quandry this year! But, much more interesting than normal!

Yes and we had some disagreements on her support of Hillary. She did not agree with many if not all of Hillary's positions. But she liked the idea that Hillary was a female.

So one member of the family is a one-issue voter regarding abortion and the other is a one-issue voter regarding sex?

I heard Dick Morris describe Palin's rise to power earlier this evening. If his description was factually accurate, Palin's life story has the makings of a great movie.

.

Absolutely a great story.

Where do you stand on the actual candidates?

Where do you stand on the actual candidates?

Presidential? Vice-Presidential? Combined ticket?

So one member of the family is a one-issue voter regarding abortion and the other is a one-issue voter regarding sex?

She had a major problem with the Clintons vetoing the partial birth abortion bill but more wanted a female in.

And I am not a one-issue voter. In the Republican primary, I had several choices to choose from and was able to look at other issues that concern me and thus why I fell in support with Huckabee.

I LOVE the Democrats plank in the platform to reduce abortions. I wish the Republicans would add that plank WITH the continued movement to have them banned.

Alas, the Dems never give me a choice to consider the other things that concern me.

Here is a thought.

All of the Democrats are falling all over themselves in saying that McCain's lack of experience argument on O is ridiculous now.

How did that argument on O fair for Hillary in the Democrat primary??? Was she successful with that strategy against him? Did it work for her?

O wait, no it didn't. She lost to him with that strategy. She lost a race she had no business losing on that argument.

Maybe McCain came to the realization that he would lose with that strategy too and now is appealing to the moms of the country. The social conservatives of this country.

On CNN, they should have a stat that married women tend to align more with Republicans than Dems. With Hillary out of the running, Palin has them written all over it.

IF Palin handles it correctly. And the McCain staff handles her correctly.

So, the more I learn about Ms. Palin, the more it makes my decision making process more difficult.

!

I still submit the above concerning the experience debate.

It failed for Hillary why would McCain feel that he can win with it?

I believe it was a losing strategy.

But, to pick someone even more inexperienced than Obama? Considering that he has at least a minimal level of experience in politics on a national scale, it seems weird that McCain would pick someone with even LESS national experience.

It seems like he went too far in trying.

So, you would agree that this is a bold and unconventional pick? The pick of a MAVERICK? The pick of someone that goes against what the traditional Republican would seem to pick.

And YET, the traditional Republicans LOVE the pick too.

The ONLY drawback with her that I have seen is her lack of experience. That is it. She has one drawback.

And in a race that is going to be fought on O's front of not the status quo, she might be an aid in battling that army.

Question for you: O has made it a point that McCain is the typical Washington politician over and over and over.

Did you feel the same way about Biden when O's argument against McCain being just Washington as normal when Biden has been there longer than McCain?

Sure. But wise?

You don't say?

Yet, it's the major thing many on this board have harped about with Obama. It cracks me up, the hypocrisy.

I have no idea what you mean here.

I did, actually. I still do. And I'm still trying to decide if it was a good move or not.
A tough, successful, career oriented woman who has raised 5 children, one of whom has Down's Syndrome. I have a feeling she'll be just fine in those debates.;)

I'm not so sure I'd say she has raised one with down syndrome yet, has she? Isn't that one an infant still?

And raising children doesn't qualify you to be the President of the United States.

Facilitating the death of newborn babies does not qualify you to be president either. However I think most people will agree that raising a child is preferable to helping kill one.

Palin's pick is a trap for the pro-abortion lobby. Abortion extremists will attack Palin's pro-life position and it will open the door wide for the McCain campaign to go after Obama on his extremist support of infanticide as an Illinois state senator.

Obama's campaign would be well advised to try to take the abortion issue off the table entirely but the radical element in the pro-choice lobby will not let that happen.

There are a lot of moms that would be comfortable with the notion that there is a person who truly understands them in the White House.

Interestingly, the moms have I have talked with DID NOT feel the same way about Condoleeza Rice.
