McCain Chooses Palin As Veep

Featured Replies

Was watching Beltway Boys and while this is definitely different times and they were not trying to say Palin is comparable to this President, it was pointed out that Abe Lincoln first time into elected office, I believe was as President.

He turned out okay.

You know, a few months back there was a thread asking for people to list Obama's qualifications to be President. I did some research and learned that Obama actually has almost the exact same type and years of experience as Lincoln did when he was elected President.

And you're right, Lincoln did turn out okay. ;)

Palin took on and defeated a the corrupt Republican political machine in Alaska. Obama is a product of the corrupt Chicago Democratic political machine. Did he take them on? Did he expose any corruption? No. He learned to play their game and allied himself with people like Jeremiah Wright and Tony Rezko.

Sarah Palin is a reformer. Barack Obama is a traditional politician.

I don't know much about her but I thought her speech at the Convention was absolutely awful.

Whose speech? What convention?

Brain fart, I didn't mean to say convention, I am referring to Palin's acceptance speech.

Sarah Palin appears to have a wonderful resume to continue in her current role as newby Governor of Alaska. VP of the United States and next in line to the oldest President in U.S. history might require a bit more horsepower than Mayor of Wasilla or early-term governor of the 47th most populous state in the Union, however.

Sara Palin has shown far more personal and political courage that Barack Obama. In her encounters with corrupt elements in her own party, she confronted and defeated them. Obama found a way to work with similar people on the south side of Chicago.

If Sara Palin is not qualified to be our news VP by the the courage and leadership that she has demonstrated in getting where she is today, then Barack Obama is certainly not qualified to the next president of the United States. Good campaigning should not be confused with good governance.

Apparently, some feel that Palin is not the woman to win over women:

Palin is a life member of the National Rifle Association and a staunch anti-abortion advocate, both qualities that quickly earned McCain’s candidacy points with conservatives. But her stance on abortion, in particular, could make it difficult to win over disgruntled supporters of former Democratic candidate Hillary Clinton.

“Senator McCain made a historic and strategic choice in choosing Gov. Sarah Palin with the clear intent of reaching out to female Hillary supporters. There’s only one obvious problem — she’s not Hillary Clinton,” Democratic strategist Chris Kofinis told FOXNews.com.

It is a little early to put too much stock in any of these polls because most Americans have only seen Palin in action once, if that.

Brash McCain pick of AK Gov. Palin neutralizes historic Obama speech, stunts the Dems' convention bounce

The latest nationwide survey, begun Friday afternoon after the McCain announcement of Palin as running mate and completed mid-afternoon today, shows McCain/Palin at 47%, compared to 45% support for Obama/Biden.

In other words, the race is a dead heat.

The interactive online Zogby survey shows that both Obama and McCain have solidified the support among their own parties - Obama won 86% support of Democrats and McCain 89% of Republicans in a two-way head-to-head poll question not including the running mates. When Biden and Palin are added to the mix, Obama's Democratic support remains at 86%, while McCain's increases to 92%.

After the McCain "Veep" announcement on Friday, Palin was almost immediately hailed as a strong conservative, and those voters have rallied to the GOP ticket, the survey shows. Republicans gather in St. Paul, Minnesota this week to officially nominate McCain and Palin as their presidential ticket.

Does the selection of Sarah Palin help or hurt John McCain's chances of winning the presidential election in November?

You go on expecting McCain to try to hammer on the issue of foreign policy experience. You'll be waiting a long, long time. He isn't going to emphasize a glaring weakness on his ticket. The guy is 72 and has battled cancer--trying to hit Obama on foreign policy experience now that he has selected Palin only raises questions about his own judgment for picking a backup who has never held office at the national level.

Look, no one is debating that McCain has more foreign policy experience than Obama. That is largely a function of age and McCain is old. The selection of Palin merely serves to eliminate foreign policy experience as a weapon for McCain's campaign to use.

Obama will get smoked on the issue. I can't wait for the idiot to be stupid enough to bring it up. Thank you for playing. ;)

What was so bad, bing you are in the minority on that?

You miss the point. He doesn't have to bring it up. If 72 year old John McCain ever tries to play the experience issue again, he gets smoked for selecting a VP with less education and experience than Obama. The issue of experience, once a strength for McCain, has now been neutralized.
