I don't read a lot of what the conservative poster's on the board say about Obama anymore, because it has degraded to what you said above.

 

You've heard one Obama insult/character attack, you have heard them all.

No, I think he chose Biden because it's well-known foreign policy isn't a strong suit of Obama. I think foreign policy is the biggest reason for choosing him.

I agree that Obama's incompetence and recent gaffes in the foreign policy arena played a big role in Biden's selection but the Obama campaign has made it clear that one of the main reasons for selecting Biden was his potential appeal to the voters that handed Obama resounding defeats in battleground states like Pennsylvania. That is the reason Biden is emphasizing his Scranton (a city in Pennsylvania) roots so much. If you disagree, then you should take it up with Obama's campaign because I am paraphrasing his campaign spokesmen.

Uhhh...that is what I said. I have also defended the logic behind the choice by agreeing that Biden can credibly claim to have shared many of the struggles common Americans have faced. (Although the fact that Biden is a human gaffe machine will come back to haunt Obama. Biden did not finish the primaries as a distant also-ran for nothing.)

OK. Biden isn't rich. OBama is recently rich and McCain has been rich for a long time.

I'm not a supporter of Hillary by in stretch of the imagination, but imo she was his best hope to win the presidency. He's blown it in one decision. Crazy!:creepy:

 

McCain will be the next president of the United Sates, all be it in a close race, but that will be the final result. Biden is little help to his cause. But I'm glad he chose him.

For those of you who enjoy bashing Fox News, I want to tell you that Britt Hume just told a personal story about Joe Biden that will make me question my impression of the man and maybe temper my comments about him to some extent. (No way would I ever vote for him, however.)

 

Hume said that several years ago, Biden approached him and asked why Hume did not cover him more. Hume told him that he was a windbag who was not a good source of sound bites. Hume said that a couple of years later, Biden approached him again and said, "You know, you were right." and thanked him. Hume went on to say that Biden is a genuinely nice guy, although he will play an effective role as Obama's attack dog during this campaign.

 

Like Hume, my impression of Biden has always been one of a windbag. However, based on the Senate hearings that I have seen him conduct, I have always considered Biden to be an arrogant jerk.

 

I think sometimes we all forget that some people are different people when at work. I remember working for a district manager for a large coal company shortly after graduating from UK. The guy, like Biden, was a pompous jerk on the job. Away from work, he was a great family man and a good friend. Fortunately, I did not work for the man for very long and we remained friends away from work.

 

Britt Hume's story reminded me of my own experiences with people who seem adopt different personalities in different work situations. Don't expect me to pass up an opportunity to criticize Biden's job performance in the future, but if Britt Hume says Biden is a genuinely nice man, then I am going to take his word for until and unless I ever get to know Biden personally.

 

One last note. Those of you who have fallen for the Fox News is the devil smears are really missing the best political commentary on TV. Whether you like them or not, it is tough to beat a line up that includes Hume, Dick Morris, Karl Rove, Juan Williams, Pat Cadell, Laura Ingraham, Bob Beckel, Susan Estrich, Scott Rasmussen, John Zogby, et al.

 

I do watch CNN from time to time because I value James Carville's opinions. Other than Carville, the most knowledgeable political talking heads are on Fox, IMO.

It is amusing to hear Democrats who opposed invading Iraq advocating a unilateral act by the US to partition a soverign nation. There was no civil war in Iraq. Once the president took McCain's advice, Al Qaeda and other terrorists quickly retreated and the level of violence dropped dramatically, just as John McCain and Gen. Petraeus predicted it would. The decision to partition Iraq should not be Joe Biden's to make. That decision should be left to the people of Iraq.

 

 

 

The last time I checked, the "sovereign nation" of Iraq was still being propped up by the United States militarily, economically, and politically. I think we continue to have a say in the country we involved ourselves in five and a half years ago. Colin Powell said it best: you break Iraq, you own it. Given the fact that U.S. actions broke it, I have no problem with U.S.-imposed creative solutions (such as partition) to pragmatically resolve the problem, especially if the Iraqis continue to be ineffective in settling their differences. In all honesty, the window of opportunity for partition has probably closed, but that does not mean that it was an idea without merit. You try selling the idea to the American people who are footing the bill that we should let the Iraqis bumble forth indefinitely in the name of "national sovereignty". That will sell well.
